I am very pleased with the quality of the fabric and low price of the generic Kampa covers. The small at 12-14 ft is fine for a Triton and the Medium at 14-17 ft for a Troll. They are obviously a loose fit, so I wrapped some extra straps around mine for a snugger fit over the winter.

My ProTec cover is just over 3 and a half years old and is delaminating on the top of the van. And has started to split.
ProTec won't do anything about it, although our last covers from them have lasted at least 12-15 years. I was told it's UV damage, but these are supposed to protect the van against UV.
I'll never buy another from ProTec, shame, as they were brilliant covers.

Can you leave reviews on there website, extolling the quality of previous covers but your [in the manufacturers view] perceived decline in recent models?

To be honest John I've never covered my caravans the white boxes that is. And I haven't any intention of cover our 2015 troll we've just acquired one reason the expense for a decent cover and secondly apart from keeping it clean why would you. An engineer told me unless you under trees and you clean your van throughout winter months to keep on top of any urban dirt it's purely down to choice not a necessity.

Hi Phil,
Our previous troll had small ‘seedlings’ of moss growing in the gutter sealant at only 2 years old. Our first caravan had so much moss growing there that it separated the awning rail and let in damp.

Covers will stop some of the seed ingress and keep the light away so things can’t grow. This is what we did with our last torn cover so we can use it as a summer cover

Hi Steve thanks for the reply. That type of cover for the problem you've had looks good . Where if I wanted one of those could I get one ...although as I've said I do wash my caravans even in winter months on a dry day. I've read that some covers even the expensive ones people have had trouble with damp due to the lack of ventilation........what a head ache ...cheers Phil

Phil, I know you have posted about covers before, but these photos may help. They are immediately after the cover came off in May, after being on for 6 months.

We live in a very wet Devon. In autumn the Eriba would be plastered with leaves that will easily stain the top. The leaf fall has been so bad the last two years that I needed to clear the house gutters every day, sometimes twice daily. Once the leave are gone we are exposed to the westerly winds that cut across the north of Dartmoor. It also hit -9c last year. To me this adds up to a good test of what a cover will withstand.
Your Eriba has numerous floor vents and the roof vent over the rear will continue to give adequate ventilation. I open all cupboards and take the bedding, cushions, towels etc indoors. In the first year here I stored our Trion. I had one spot of white about the size of a 2p piece on a seat squab that had been touching the cold floor. In the second year here I stored our Feeling and rested the seat squabs on the front table and it over wintered perfectly.
The only thing I am doing differently next year is tilting the van across the axle as well as front to back as I had some dirt on the rear of the roof.

Thanks for the reply Colin. Can we assume then covers are for keeping the van clean or is it for preventing frost damage that can lead to water ingress something I'm sadly used to with the white box british caravans...hence this is why we've invested alot of money on our Eriba Troll as I was told Eriba caravans rarely have water ingress problems. Because sadly banks closed regarding a cover this year . So is it a must to have a cover to reduce the chance of winter water ingress or in your opinion a opinion I respect a cover is a must have. Many thanks Phil...

A cover will not protect from the frost, but it will keep the van clean and stop your roof becoming chalky. It should also limit UV exposure that degrades sealants, rubber gaskets etc. The window rubbers should be OK as I think they are a silicon rubber.

A quick search on e-bay shows the 14-17 ft generic Kampa cover you would need for a Troll, the same as I use on my Feeling, is available for £85. Quite a few members use this make and are gappy with the quality and very happy with the price. Ideally a couple of webbing straps around the vans waist pull everything into place so no flapping about over winter.

OK cheers for that Colin. I'll have a look. Certainly better that £500 for a protec cover.
