Troll 530 & 540

Can anyone tell me if there are any external differences between a Troll 540 and the Troll 530.
From photos I have looked at, they look the same size.

The distance from the front of the van to the door is greater on the 530, allowing for the larger dining area. On newer vans, post 2012 ish, you will only have one rear side window as standard on a 530. The "other" rear window on the bathroom side is an option on the 530.

Yes, as Colin says, The door on the 530 folds back flush with the side of the Troll and ends up roughly where the high level quarter light is so it means that you can keep the door fully open at 180 degrees when an awning is fitted.

The 540 door when fully folded back flush with the side of the troll, sticks out forward of the front curve and therefore prevents the door from fully opening when an awning is fitted. It only opens by about 90 degrees.

The obvious way to tell the difference is that the kitchen window and the rear side window of the 530 are close together and only just enough room for the awning light whereas the 540 has an appreciable gap between the windows.

All the van's in the three size ranges 3XX Familia, 4XX Triton and 5XX Troll are the same lengths. However the steel frame that support the bodywork is different in each one to allow for different door and window positions. All were the same width up until 2010ish when the Trolls were made a touch wider. At the same time the awning rail was raised to allow a taller door frame ans the roof was made slimmer to keep the overall height about the same.

Skoda Karoq 1.5 Petrol DSG and a 420. A Bailey Phoenix + 420, with oven, microwave, shower cubicle, solar panel, ATC and external gas point.

Andy, don't forget the 55 series. The 550, 552, 554 and 555 had always 210cm wide.

Sorry, yes they were wider a few years before the rest of the Trolls followed suit when production shifted from Cernay to Bad Waldsheim..

The greater living area of the 530 comes at the expense of a shorter crosswise (fixed ?) bed.

Although Steve, those plan views are not to scale as they don't show the obvious differences in fittings and furniture which means that the external door position is in noticably different position in reality.

Lazy draughtmanship which will only confuse potential purchasers

Roughly speaking the 530 has front benches/bed a foot wider than a 540 and the rear lounge of the 530 is a foot less than the 540. So it depends if you want a foot extra on the dinette or a foot extra on the lounge. Though the 530 can have a fixed double instead of a lounge and the fixed bed version of a 540 is the 542.

Many thanks for the detailed answers, I'm looking at a cover that was made for a 530, to go on my 540.
I'm getting it for a very good price. The door access is different, but I can live with that.
