Buying a van in eu
Hi,
I’m looking into buying an Eriba in mainland Europe and importing it to Greece. I don’t know much yet about legalities but I know a COC doc is required. Do second hand Eribas generally have this doc with them? I’d be interested to hear members experiences buying in eu. Are some countries more organised than others with documentation?
I notice there is a post with eu dealers so I’ll be checking by that out. So much useful info on here ! Do people buy mainly from dealers or do they venture into private sellers deals too?
Thanks in advance
Sue

Where does one start?
Being a UK based website, admittedly with some members on the Continent, you're unlikely to find many with experience of what you are proposing.
In more general terms, why not buy one in Greece when any little local difficulties re importation would not exist?
CofC documents are routinely ignored/not handed over by car and caravan dealers in the UK and I've never understood why. I suspect that pans out differently on the Continent as the CofC is a prime registration document in at least some nations. I understand that you can obtain a copy from Hymer if necessary.
Buying on the Continent for use on the Continent will mean having the right sockets for local electrical supply plus having the rear lights the right way round for driving on the right.
Buying from a dealership might reduce language barrier issues.
Buying from a dealership, as in the UK, will provide legal protections that buying privately does not.
A dealership will usually provide some form of warranty, whereas buying privately that isn't the case.
The Hymer warranty may be transferable to a new owner but you need to be certain the van has been serviced in accordance with the stipulations within the warranty conditions or a transfer will be refused.
I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
But to settle down and write you a line

Hi and thanks for the reply. I have just found a dealer in Greece and his prices seem good and when I'm ready, hopefully later this year, i think that would be the way to go. Also excited to actually be able to have a look at a van close.

Based on Andy's comments above and my comments on your other post, I wonder if it would be a good idea for you to get in touch with a UK Eriba outlet and ask the questions? There are two in easy reach of the Channel Ports:-
https://www.koolclassics.com/
https://www.leisurefirst.com/
I know that both dealers have been involved in importing used Eribas from mainland Europe so should have some experience with that. (I've often wondered if they just buy them and tow them back privately? )
By the way, many Europeans are very happy to tow elderly Eribas as they trust the build quality so if money is an issue you'll get just as much fun out of a 25 year old eriba as you would with newer one.
I also wonder that if you purchase something in the UK or Netherlands and decide to drive it to you home country, whether your van needs to have all the necessary documents for each country. I do know that once we leave the UK ports and travel, sometimes through as many as 10 European countries on one vacation, we are never asked to provide documentation, in fact we are rarely stopped.
Perhaps your first stop is to check with the Greek Authoritie or a local Caravan Dealer, what the situation is when OWNING a caravan in Greece.

Great news. In the meantime keep researching using this forum and ask as many questions as you want. Lots to learn.
Would you like to disclose the dealship's website so we can have a look?

We were about to buy a used Eriba from Leisure first some years ago and part ex our French reg.familia, the deal fell down at the last minute as they were unable to provide a COC prior to,I believe, 2009 models, which meant we couldn't apply for a registration in France on our return obviously this may have changed now

Sure, this is it. ...
Ah, I can't post external link yet. if you google 'Caravania Zisis' it should work and there is a single new 542 for 28,900 euros
Not that I would want this model, too big and probs more money than I want to spend, but it's cheaper than the same same model on the German site. Seems low for a new one, perhaps i'm missing something ??
I did check that the price includes vat

If you have a look at the Eriba configurator you will be able to work out was is standard and what extras it has. That should help you work out if it is good value or not. https://www.eriba.com/gb/en/configurator/feeling#/overview

Here it is Sue. https://caravania.gr/anazitisi/hymer-eriba-touring-542/
Hopefully someone will let you know if it's a bargain or not for although it's not the one for you, at least you'll know how prices compare in Greece.

Adding to what Roger said above. We bought our Triton 430 from a private seller in 2015. She is from 1998 and in very good nick. We have no problems with the build quality that the newer vans seem to suffer from..... just ask here LOL. We paid 7200E for our van and I'm sure we could sell her for more today. Certainly in France where we live, there's a huge demand for the older vans. The problems we've had to deal with : A new element in the fridge. The loo doesn't flush - I throw some water form a bottle down it. We love her.

As above, we bought our 2008 320gt when we lived in France in 2013 from a one owner for 4000 euros, that was our best bargain ever
