Germany or Brasil

On the site near Aggergabenny there was a sole German chap touring Wales in his Knauss motorhome, making a documentary of his travels for presenting to his compatriots when he returned home on the delights of Wales. I didn't offer any opinions on his quest but we talked football and I said I was torn on the Semi final between them and Brasil.
I think Brasil have just been too cocky and over confident because they have one player who is nothing like their skilled and graceful footballers from a few years back, but I didn't want the Germans to win because they win lots of tournaments.
He saw my point and we remained friendly, and the result last night became a joyous evening for me, to be entertained by such a high scoring game, although marred as usual by the phoney antics of the many drama queens in their dives and howls of anguish, whilst wearing their socks high over their knees. I thought that fashion (which is terrible), like the haircuts favoured at present, had died out some years back, so what's that all about?

Whether it be Holland or Argentina that go through to the final (I personally hope Holland by the way) I can't for one moment see Germany getting such an easy ride as they did against Brazil. In that game it wasn't so much that Germany played brilliantly but rather that the Brazilians didn't play at all. With absolutely no midfield or defence presence an under 11's school boy team would have put Brazil to shame.

The secret for success it seems is to assemble as many players from one home league team as possible because they will be familiar with each other style of play. For Germany you might as well read team Bayern Munich as Schweinsteiger, Neuer, Lahm, Götze, Müller, Kroos and Boateng all play for them. In fact I think the entire squad have been picked from only three teams.

Yes I would go along with that and for fear of being banned from this forum I would remind people of a similar situation in the 2008 Rugby Six Nations.

Having five Liverpool players in the England squad didn't make very much difference to our abject performance, did it?

It doesn't always work.

And for what it's worth, I think the Germans were brilliant last night. Sure, you can only play the team in the opposite half, and Brazil were woeful, disorganised and lacking any kind of leadership, but there were few teams which could have lived with the Germans yesterday, though it pains me to say it.

And one other thing, while I'm on a roll - the current German squad is drawn from the players of ten clubs, not three.
