Ah but the 'getting a dog crate in the boot AND a grandson on a backseat' at the same time sort of came from left field. She'd only suggested one OR the other before and frankly Tardis are thin on the ground this model year, especially in 'not white'.

It is strange how some vehicles just go and go, our old H plate Shogun which we bought new in Germany, had 200k+ on the clock when we sold it a week short of 20 years ownership, we towed a big Burstner and latterly the Eriba with it all over Europe, coming back to the UK twice a year with the Burstner, and it never let me down. I had it dealer serviced until the 3 year warranty expired then just changed oil and filter religiously at 3000 miles. Never went near a dealership again, only went to a garage for it's MoT, and I had a wheel bearing replaced in as I say just under 20 years.

Tyres, brake pads and shoes, and a battery, were the only other items I replaced, original clutch, exhaust (stainless from new on the export Shogun ( not Pajero).

Fabulous vehicle just needed 6 gears, and a diet

My Rav4 failed twice in 4 years due to Lambda sensor failure. (Given away)

Mini Cooper S no problems. (Sold)

Current car 10 plate BMW 320d no problems, yet

Totally agree - best vehicle I ever owned. Bought it when I went to work abroard on an island whose roads were full of potholes - where roads existed that is - and where I also needed access to dive sites which were inaccessible to your average car. Once ploughed all the way up a snow covered mountain in France during ownership with the snow piled up to the waistline. Never once failed to deliver what I asked of it and never ever let me down. The brakes were in need of some serious work when I part exchanged it with a dealer but that was to be expected after several years regularly driving through sea water.
