Hi All
Recently joined as we have bought a 1980 Triton. Hoping to enjoy membership with our dream caravan. It was sold with some welding needed on the front of the frame. Stupidly bought on ebay. Expert who looked it over has written off the subframe. Rusted along the entire bottom edge of the chassis. Gutted. We are probably going to break for parts. Most things will be available including the aluminium skin. I will strip the skin off and see if it is possible to repair if not we will be selling parts on ebay from November. All other parts are in good shape.
Let us know if you are searching for anything specific.our van 10.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Hi Mark, sorry to hear of your misfortune as always it's easy to be wise after the event. Here's a thought and one you may not have considered, pro iding you have room, why not use it as a posh garden retreat that way you get to keep your newly aquired van and altbough you might not have budgeted for the extra expense you do get something unique out of it. Whatever you decide, best of luck

Hi Mark and welcome to Eribafolk. Sorry to hear about the problems with your Triton.
However, all might not be lost. We've read about Eribas with serious corrosion being fully restored. Suppose the main questions are how much does it owe you and how handy are you?
There was a report in the Eriba Owner's Club newsletter recently where a Puck had a great deal of chassis work undertaken by a decent vehicle restoration workshop. Not cheap but far more reasonable than scrapping and finding another one.
If it is recoverable at an affordable cost then at least you'll know that you've got 20 more years of life out of it.

Thanks for your replies. I will be strip off the lower skin and floor and see if it is Repairable. On Ebay they guarantee your money back on everything except Vehicles, caravans and real estate. The same goes for Paypal so read the small print is the warning. Seller has claimed he had no idea there was a problem with it.

Thanks for the links. I am going to give it a try. Have found a friend who can weld. He thinks it can be repaired. Just means we will peel off the skin and take out the floor. Not something I had intended to do.

Here are some new photos of my 1980 Triton. We took out the floor and could then see the full extent of the rust. The front section had rotted out also the front right bent section had disappeared. We have cut it out and replaced the front section. Next is the rounded front part and the most worrying section. This is the far side lugs that hold the cage on the main chassis, these have rusted and the side had dropped off the frame and dropped down by an inch. We have used a car jack and raised it back up and will re weld it on Monday. In all three days of welding needed to make it safe.
As you can see we had to use an Prop to hold the front of the Van up.
Lucky that the main chassis and the cage above the floor level are all sound.
I will post some finished welding pictures next week, the welding is not pretty but it will be safe.

I'm sure that I speak for all our members when I wish you every success with the rebuild. You are brave to take on such a task but I'm sure it will all be worth it in the long run.
Many thanks for the update and keep the pictures coming so we can follow your progress.

Check out the body filler used in the bottom rail. The previous owner covered all the rust with it and painted it all black.
