Hinges

During our Tritons annual service earlier today it was noticed that there were hairline cracks on two seperate locker hingers. I would never have noticed them myself - I mean who inspects the vans locker hinges to see if they are suffering from hairline cracks LOL - but by all accounts this has been reported several times now and mechanics have been instructed to check all locker hingers when vans come in for service.

Anyway, photographs were taken and submitted to Hymer along with a report and once approval has been given, repairs will be undertaken. This comprises of replacing all locker hinges in the first instance in addition to adding an aluminium strip to the lip of the locker. This is hard to describe but if you imagine opening up the locker, just in front of where the hinge is secured to the locker itself (not the door) is a small raised strip......probably only a quarter of an inch in height. It's this strip that will be covered by a piece of upturned 'U' shaped strip of aluminium. When I asked why, when this was a problem known to Hymer, does every van first have to have it's hinges photographed and subsequently forwarded to Hymer. Surely this just causes more work for everyone all round including the owner of the van who has to haul the van back to the dealer.

So good folks - check your hinges, or have them checked, because this isn't going to be a recall issue.
