ADAC
We are probably going to be away for 7 or 8 months next year, albeit with a return to the UK for son 1's wedding in June. (Lu is in Mumzilla mode already )
Trouble is European Breakdown Cover. The UK insurers only cover for up to 6 months as far as I can see and we reached our limit with that, both in time terms and also financially this year. Then you need cover for car and Eriba in the UK.
Had a look on Caravan Talk and ADAC seemed popular because it is cheap, under 100 euros for annual pan European cover for a couple and a good level of cover because of its size. Their agents in the UK are the AA apparently.
For those not familiar with ADAC, they are the German equivalent of the AA/RAC combined with some 18 million members. They do not have an age limit on vehicles and so are popular with the classic car fraternity and from peoples experiences with their caravans and motorhomes, seem very good.
Question is, has anyone used them on the forum?

It was a long time ago, some 20 years, but I found them really good especially when a German gentleman reversed into our car. We had periods back in the UK but remained with them (they needed a German address but as a soldier that was easily sorted).
I had periods of cover with them from 1974 through to 1994 / 5 and would again based on my experience.
I had cars in Germany before 1974 but they were seldom used for long trips, being single then, I preferred to fly home✈🚁

Some info here. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/disp...&TopicID=276811 Glad you are asking the question as I have wondered about this myself. what will you be doing for health cover? Geoff
Hi Geoff
As we are returning to the UK we will probably take out two lots of medical insurance, ADAC's medical cover is really a get you home service, not cover for hospital stays per se.
A friend of ours was hospitalised for three weeks when staying with us this summer and received very good care from our local Italian hospital under his EHIC card. The insurance came in when getting him back to the UK after his 5 hour operation. Fortunately he had been very open about his pre-exisiting medical conditions as the insurers went through his medical history with a fine tooth comb before they agreed the cover was applicable, a lesson learned.
In truth, the main issue when people are ill abroad is language and Glyn was fortunate in this respect. If you cannot understand the doctors it is very stressful being ill in a foreign country.
I guess you could combine EHIC and ADAC, depending on which countries you intend to visit.

Been a member of the ADAC for over thirteen years now having their Plus membership along with another couple of their services one being Rechtsschutzversicherung, or Legal Expenses Insurance. Have had cause to use both of these services over the years and have never had cause for complaint of any kind.
