" Don't forget to inspect the inner tyre walls"
Thanks Rod......one thing I had not done..... .I do recall getting a bulge on an inside tyre wall previously, on a car. I should have remembered that !
Main concern was that with a printed Max tyre pressure on sidewall of 40 psi. I could exceed that if running at 40 psi, when tyre got warm (+ 4 psi maybe )
still, I'm assuming there is a safety margine Ian.

Quote: logburner wrote in post #18I apologise for butting in on your conversation Ian, but indicated maximum tyres pressures are always cold ones and you're right, that figure does allow for an increase in pressure as the tyres warm up.

Quote: Skoderiba wrote in post #20I don't think that's right. Not the second part anyway - not if it means inflating beyond the maximum indicated pressure.
'My only concern is the Max. pressure of 40 psi.written on the sidewall'
My local tyre fitter says this is max pressure to seat the tyre bead in the rim when fitting. Once seated properly inflate to the recommended pressure.
Troll 1300kg = 56lb sq in.
As far as I'm aware, the marked maximum (cold) pressure - usually accompanied by the maximum load figure - is just that; the maximum pressure to which the tyre may be safely inflated, even while seating the bead.
There's no way I'd inflate a tyre marked a with a maximum pressure of 40psi to 56psi. Or anything above 40psi.
No way.
This whole thing is made even more confusing by the use of 'commercial' (i.e. van) tyres, car tyres and tyres marked 'for trailer use only' (like the Kargomaxes we've got) on caravans.
It isn't comparing apples with apples. Tyres designed for car use are different in construction to those designed for commercial vehicles or trailers because they're designed to fulfil different needs.
I suspect most caravan tyres marked with a comparatively low maximum pressure are actually car tyres rather than tyres specifically designed for vans or trailers which usually have taller and stiffer sidewalls, higher maximum pressures (at a higher load, for obvious reasons) and often a lower speed rating.
The tyres with a psi recommendation in the mid 50's on the Eriba pressure chart are all C marked. Commercial vehicle tyres. And those have a significantly higher load rating.
All the others have recommended pressures in the thirties or forties.

we got 3x 185/R14C 102 rated too cold to see brand at moment, we looked into the interweb but found a local supplier cheaper and able to order quicker, there was a 3 month waiting list other places.
if you have a mover you may need to measure clearance

we took the wheels and tires off eriba went to do supermarket shop while they fitted and balanced.
troll 1200 axle but wanted belt and braces regarding tyre specs, and wanted to fit to do wheel nut torques ourselves,
seen the damage from wrong spec'd tyres, had a few low speed blow outs on trucks with new tyres so was wanting to cover all events.
might be a good time to get brakes serviced with wheels off

We bought a 2001 Puck in October '13 and used it a couple of times before the winter. When sorting out a service and check I also checked the tyres, to find that they were original figment, being dated 2001! I had them all replaced, including the unused spare using Typeshopper. I also chose to have 155's fitted in lieu of the original 135's, to increase the margins of weight safety. The spare wheel carrier needed slight mods to fit the larger tyre como but I am now happily sorted.
