Just bought the Andrew James single electric hob it is not halogen just ordinary but only cost £16.99 from Andrew James company itself. There is 15% off at the moment not much but a saving and two year warranty as well. I agree the halogen quicker and more modern and probably a lot better. But for the price and warranty I don't think bad. As I will only use when caravanning it will serve its purpose as when I am caravanning I am in no hurry.

I understand the safety side that with halogen as soon as it stops cooking the plate does not stay warm. We have no children all grown up just have to place in secure position. Anyway happy with my purchase and just letting everyone know in case they are looking for similar. There is a cheaper one for just £9.99 but the one I bought looks better designed and in a nice silver colour.

We've had good service from Andrew James products. We've had a halogen oven for several years and this time last year we purchased an Andrew James single induction hob.

Slightly off topic...

I bought a halogen oven for the caravan as we have no oven in eiher it or the van, but I haven't had much success with cooking in it! It's useful for things like cooking jacket potatoes, warming a quiche or browning the top of mac n cheese or a cottage pie (that I have cooked in a saucepan)... but has anyone had success in actually cooking in it? I made a cake from the recipe book and the middle wasn't cooked at all. I tried something else and it was a bit of a disaster. Don't get me wrong, it's worth having just for what we use it for so far, but I wondered if others have success with cooking from scratch in it.

We've had ours (12 litre) since our big trip in 2011, when I did use it a few times. It was good for cooking ready made croissants that you can buy in French supermarkets. I also managed a huge pizza kit in two halves. However, it is probably more suited to a colder climate, and we have used it rarely on subsequent trips. The problem is that I seem to burn things on the top before everything is cooked. My greatest success was a roast chicken dinner for Easter Day when we were in the Gers. Here is a picture of it - chicken is supposed to be yellow! The advantage of it is, of course is that you can do all your washing up in it at the same time as cleaning the bowl - I like the idea of ovens cleaning themselves!

Looks great Crystal. I had heard that they were good for a single pot roast dinner but I am a vegetarian! (although other half isn't). Your observation re burning the top when the underneath isn't cooked was my experience too. I think trial and error must be the secret, although I think 'upside down' cooking may be the right idea. For example, a savoury pastry pie would never cook the underside properly. However, I might try cooking the filling first until done and then just put a pastry top on it, or a cobbler or similar, using the extender ring to save it burning. As I said before, it does do a lot you cant do without an oven, so it is useful.
