I was given a heads up on Towergate being in trouble.
Seems it has been resolved http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsb...ondholders.html

Interesting. We weren't aware of their difficulties. If it had all gone wrong how would policy holders have fared?
We hate this time of year for it's open season for a good fight with our various insurance companies etc. Only this morning we were informed that we now have to pay almost as much for cat insurance as we do for our car. However if you go on line to the same company an seek a new policy you can get it for a third of the cost.
Remarkably our car insurance has gone down by 52p and we are now waiting for the AA to come along with a bill for annual family motor breakdown cover which we will have to phone up about and beat down by about 50%.

We too have found going on line the insurance is much cheaper. AA Relay etc wanted to charge 172 for the 2nd year and went on line and got it for 114, phoned them up and they matched it. Same happened with LV for their travel insurance as we are limited to who we can use but still found they wanted 52 more than on line. Again phoned and they let us have it for the lower price.
(away at mo and just realised my mini laptop does not have a 'pound' sign..... that's what you get for buying in Singapore!!....but did save lots)

You'll save a lot more as well Chris if you can get away with using the Singapore Dollar sign in front of the amount instead of using the £ sign
