I am just about to purchase milenco towing mirrors and would welcome comments on choosing either concave or flat glass
I use flat as I don't like the distorted view of concave, just my opinion

I use flat glass on the drivers side which gives me the distance of cars before I pull out to over take, I use a convex mirror on the passenger side which allows me to see oncoming traffic from motorway slip roads and I can also see my caravan wheel and how close it is to the kerb......

I believe It is now illegal to tow a caravan here in France without towing mirrors irrespective of whether you can see or not
I go with Bryn re towing in France. Best to have extra rear-view mirrors attached even if you CAN see clearly without them. Relevant text:
RÉTROVISEURS (rear-view mirrors)
Selon l’article R316-6 du Code de la Route : (Highway Code)
Tout véhicule à moteur, à l'exception des véhicules
et appareils agricoles n'ayant pas de cabine
fermée, doit être muni d'un ou de plusieurs
miroirs rétroviseurs de dimensions suffisantes,
disposés de façon à permettre au conducteur de
surveiller de son siège la route vers l'arrière du
véhicule quel que soit le chargement normal de
celui-ci et dont le champ de visibilité ne comporte
pas d'angle mort notable susceptible de
masquer un véhicule s'apprêtant à dépasser.
À Savoir :
Les rétroviseurs additionnels ne sont
pas nécessaires avec une caravane de
faible largeur (2.10 m max.) et avec une
tractrice assez large.
• Votre tractrice doit correspondre à
votre caravane et à la manière dont
vous l’utiliserez.
My rough translation of this is as follows :
"All motorised vehicles except for agri machines not having a closed cabin must be equipped with at least one rear view mirror of sufficient size fitted so as to allow the driver (from his seated position) to be able to see the road behind as he normally would. The field of view has to take into account any blind-spot which could prevent you seeing a vehicle engaged in overtaking you. Please note that extra rear-view mirrors are not needed for caravans up to 2.1 metres wide which are towed behind a car of appropriate width. Your tow-car must be suitable for the caravan to be towed and for the type of towing you propose to do".
If anyone can suggest a better translation, in whole or in part, please do not hesitate. In any event, I think the message is clear : when towing a caravan in France, fit your wing-mirrors and, even better, fit a blind-spot mirror as well if necessary. Am away to the airport now to pick MOH who has been in the UK with my bank card.........................

We have one of each. I have experimented with the flat lens and on the passenger side found it almost useless as the field of view was too small. On the drivers side it's fine as it's all to do with how close you are to the mirror as a driver. As Poptop320 says the convex on the passenger side gives a good view of slip roads and the near side wheel.
I fit them pointing upwards which I feel gives the best view of road and van.
