Its all to do with the distance between the hitch and the towed vehicle wheels
the longer the distance the easier it is to reverse.
You should see the guy at the workshop roar backwards across the yard with his 18 foot long car trailer.

Low revs (tick over for me) small movements of the steering wheel, learn the trick with the wheel, use your mirrors, I watch one side predominately (that will be the side next to any obstruction) it's also quite acceptable to get out and see how far it is from the rear of the pitch etc. I'm self taught with caravans although I did learn to reverse other things in the Army (and without a steering wheel)

Thanks for the link Rod, I shall print it off, and carry it behind the sun visor ready for an instant reminder, should I find it necessary
to actually do it. Had to actually turn it all last year.....the outfit, that is....you know, sat/nag in passenger seat, wrong turning taken, totally under pressure, trying hard to do it quickly, before another vehicle appears. Had to do a trial reverse to see which way the van was going to turn !! Went all pear shaped from there. I need to practise. Ian.
