If your travelling on the M5 North or South and need a stop for services in or around Gloucester then why not try http://www.gloucesterservices.com/ really nice, comfortable, clean, different speciality foods, local cuisine, environmentally friendly, privately owned, Agger like's them but has no association with them, just somewhere nice and a different approach to the more normal "plastic" services

Yes I have heard of that services as being very good. They also sell pies and produce from a local Farm Small Holding and Shop Cinderhill Farm, that was on TV in Countryfile I think.

Only been in here for a brief "P"stop, but was very impressed with the general appearance and set up of the place :) Would definitely consider a 'longer' stop next time we're passing !

Yes, stopped there a couple of times on the way back north and its the best in the UK, in my estimation.
Also if you have dogs there is a fantastic dog walk to allow your pouches to perform.

Just taken this from Twitter, it shows the al fresco (whoever he is) dining area great just for a coffee or toilet stop

They have another family run service station up North in Cumbria on the M6 at Jcn 38 where it all started, it's at Tebay near the Airstream showroom who also sell Eribas.

Absolutley right, the Tebay one used to be very good, hav'nt been in there though for at least 3 years, no reason to expect a drop in standards though, this is how ALL motorway services should be! After all some are run by major high street retailers

Stopped at the North bound with my daughter last year coming back from Glastonbury festival, for breakfast excellent food and service. People were commenting on a strange smell but we couldn't smell a thing. For some reason when we moved away they stopped commenting and sniffing
Stooped in June this year at the newly opened South Bound as just as good but avoid weekends!

On the flip side, the Sutton Scotney services ( Roadchef ) southbound on the A34 near Winchester is a bloody embarrassment.

Your only food choice is McDonalds or Costa Coffee. Couldn't even buy a sandwich or a bag of crisps. The car park was untidy with overflowing bins and the toilets were shabby.

For many years it used to be a Little Chef where you could at least get a cheap square meal and a decent cup of tea.

It's when you travel through France and stop at their motorway services that you discover how bad they are in the UK.
We very rarely stop at any services in the UK and only really for a p**, to let the dogs p** or if fuel is required on the trip south / north but when we have stopped they are always busy especially at the fast food outlets which I'd never purchase from.

Totally agree. In Spain and Portugal also.

Many of the service stations in Spain are run by Repsol and some are no more than a small petrol station but in all cases, there is a good choice of snacks and drinks available and every toilet we visited, even in the back of beyond, was fabulously clean.
It would appear that many of these services are run by one person.

We fuelled up here on our way back from Scotland. At least 10p per litre more expensive than anywhere else (£1.22 per litre and the price was not displayed anywhere before getting to the pump). How can they justify that? On the way up we paid £1.09 at the Gretna Green services.
