It may be a one off but still worth mentioning, I was making a cup of tea in my Gimex Melamine mug yesterday, I put in the tea bag then added the boiling water, I went to get the milk out of the fridge when I heard a pop. I turned around to see that the mug had a large split from the top to the underside of the cup spilling boiling water all over my cooker....
We have now got two pot mugs from the pound shop...

I have heard this before. Although we have always made drinks in melamine mugs the same way without problems the advice is to add the milk before adding the boiling water. Apparently melamine has a problem with boiling water, who knew? We too have pot mugs now but that's because the eldest daughter bought us a set of Corelle crockery and it had 4 pot mugs included. This was to replace the mish mash of plastic plates etc left over from our tent camping days which ended up in the Eriba.

That may be the answer Julie, although you will have to use a teapot, otherwise it will mean soaking the teabag in milk.......

Valid point, we do use a teapot for the tea but used to make coffee with the boiling water straight into the mug not being posh enough to carry a coffee maker or cafetiere with us.

The same happened to us with one of our Melamine mugs. We were miles away from the accessory shop we had bought it from so didn't bother to follow it up in the end - suppose we should have.

That won't break Nev, although I do find metal mugs are a bit too hot on the lips, I must admit when I'm at home I always find tea tastes better out of a bone China cup, or is that just me
