Gas box internals refurb

The Mobile Service Engineer who replaced my fridge electric element called today to do some work on my gas locker internals.

As some of you may know my Triton is an import from Holland and to get the gas working on UK cylinders I bought an adaptor to get the European regulator to fit over in the UK this was always intended to be a temporary measure as the European regulator did not have a test point which made doing a leak test difficult.

Well today I had the whole lot replaced with a bulkhead mounted regulator and a Stainless Steel Propane Pigtail

Fairly sure I read somewhere that regulators need replacing every 10 years but can't find a link to it now also the date for changing the rubber pigtail was up this year so I thought time to do a total refit as the Triton is 9 years old this year.

Standard rubber pigtails are always dated and last for 5 years from new, Stainless Steel pigtails are rated for 20 years but cost 3 times as much there is an over all saving in the long run but more important there is less chance of residue damaging the regulator with Stainless Steel pigtails.

I don't like messing about with gas as I'm not qualified..............I could probably change a pigtail (with some leak test fluid) but the rest is best left to someone more qualified.

It is important to have the regulator mounted above the cylinder to prevent any residue in the pigtail reaching the regulator.

The work was done by waveney motorhomes who also service my van and do any work beyond my DIY skills

They are a small family business serving the south Norfolk \ North Suffolk area as mobile service \ repair work and have my recommendation

Watch the rubbe grommet in the cylinder end of the pig tail. They have a habit of getting stuck in the gas cylinders. Also the rubber will perish over time making it more likely to happen the older it is. Probally have 20 people a year wanting to search though a trailer of empty cylinders for their rubber bit!
