Awning for Puck

Brace yourself..... barrage of newbie questions coming in!!!!

My Puck came with a Soplair awning which looks brilliant in the pictures but we're standing here scratching our heads at the multiple poles. Yikes. We're used to a Vango Tunnel tent which has 3 poles & takes 10 minutes to erect & gets us out of the rain quickly. Also, I'm a bit concerned about the weight as I'm towing with a very small car. I have an ace summer awning but my festivals are sometimes soggy ones so it wouldn't offer much protection against the elements.

After reading historic posts for what seems like forever I've come to the conclusion there isn't an awning that's lightweight & quick to pitch for Millie's rail height.

So.........My question is if I bought a drive away awning that was for vans that were 170cm rail height could I just squish it up a bit closer to the van to make up the 4cm? Or could I saw 4cm off the poles and make the awning a bit shorter?

This is the way my simplistic mind works & I'm not particularly hung up on aesthetics so wouldn't mind a bit of a botch job !!! Ha ha.

If you were to buy a drive away awning, for example g8p417-Outdoor-Revolution-Movelite-Pro.html or many of the others shown in our awning gallery, they don't rely on poles near to where you attach it to the Eriba. Therefore, within reason, the awning rail height of your Puck shouldn't concern you.

I agree with Randa - I've a Puck L which has a low awning rail ( though not as low as a Puck) and use amongst others a Movelite Square 'drive away' awning. The only part that is height dependent is the tunnel which attaches to the rail. The low height will make this slack, which if needed can be rectified by use of an additional flexible pole to make a hoop to raise the tunnel roof to tighten it. This is often referred to as 'a rain pole' as it reduces the chances of rain pooling in the slack tunnel roof ! Hope this a help to you :)

Thanks for your replies. Much appreciated.

Wow. Hub. You've made it look easy!!!

Have been to Winfields Outdoors today & like the look of the Outwell Daytona. But after seeing pitching pictures of the Soplair so kindly provided think I'll give it a go on my maiden voyage in Mille.

If it's a pitching disaster ending in a full scale row in the campsite with the (nah, you don't do it like that) hubster I've now got a plan B!!!

Thanks

The instructions I uploaded here may be of some use.

I know it's not the same model but the general principles are the same.
