It's recommended for use on glassfibre car bodywork so what's the problem?
Hold on, now. Somewhere there's a saying about not shooting the messenger! What is the good of a forum whose members offer advice if that advice is not at least acknowledged?
In the past month alone 67 new members have registered on the forum and countless others are accessing our pages for the first time as guests. None of these will have seen the previous thread to which you referred. In such cases, rather than make a sweeping and unsubstantiated generalisation, it would have been preferable to have linked to the thread so that your remark could have been read in context.

The label on Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection includes this sentence: "Also ideal for caravans, motorcycles, trucks, planes, boats, glass fibre surfaces and chromium plate."

I have tried a number of polishes, waxes and high-tech protectants on my van's roof and the best results without a doubt have been obtained with Autoglym Super Resin Polish and Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection.

Does anyone know of an Eriba owner who has had the roof gel coat repaired or the roof repainted?

Brian, I'm going to treat your very comprehensive response in three parts.

I have no idea how many new registrations there have been, and, do you know, I don't really care. Good that new people are joining, but it doesn't affect the way we navigate a forum. My generalisation, far from being sweeping and unsubstantiated, was specific and was based on previous threads here at eribafolk.com, in which concerns were expressed and not resolved about the use of silicones on fibreglass. No, you're right, I didn't link to the most recent of these threads. Instead I quoted the thread's title, which anyone with half a brain could copy and paste into the excellent Search facility and discover any amount of context they might want. It's what Search is for.

I don't doubt either of your statements. I'm sure Autoglym do make the claim, and I'm sure you get superb results.

Is this an example of Yorkshire plain speaking, Brian, or are you being snide again? I thought your initial response ("where's the problem") to my post was brusque and uncalled-for, and if it had to be expressed it should have been expressed in private. I don't like rudeness in online usergroups – that's why I didn't let it drop. But I know that Forum Administrator will trump Relative Newcomer every time. Let's just hope that, before you close this thread and hide it, you'll think for a moment about how you come across.

The occupation listed in your profile is certainly accurate.

I think we would all be guilty of wanting an easier solution, but to be honest, you need to wash it, cut it back using a mild abrasive (t cut, meguiars, duraglit) this is the most important part! Don't rush or cut corners, preperation is everything. When your happy the roof is clean and you have cut it back sufficeintly to remove all marks, then and only then apply the wax, a good quality wax will last approx 4 to 6 months on a car (grp, fibreglass can be different) somit is'nt unfortunatley just a once a year thing (unless you have a cover or store indoors)

Sorry to be a pain but I could'nt access the latest post by poptop320

Likes to wax and have a smooth finish! Has an empty space where once a very polished Eriba stood😎

The problem with forums is, the written word can be misinterpreted by either the writer or/and the reader which then can start a little friction. Could toys be brought back into the pram and all play nice!

Hi guys!!! I have read lots with interest. I just wondered if someone, who follows the non silicone way, could give me a list of what to use on my 1998 Eriba please?

Welcome, and in answer to your resurection of this old post a short cheap answer that does not use any expensive or specialist products.
- do NOT use a jet wash
-- good soaking followed by decent quality car shampoo.
- rinse off and chamois or microfibre cloth
- dabs of white spirit to remove stubborn marks.tar spots
- T-cut the roof if it is flat and non glossy
- do NOT T-cut the painted body
- good quality car polish, eg Autoglym roof and body
- If you have a dimpled body then Bobby Dazzler is excellent on this finish
- windows might respond to a bit of a polish but check the label as some polishe are not suitable for plastic
