Help! Getting ready to go away for a few days in my (old) Puck and the corner steady has failed…I recall this happened last year when I used it for the first time, but I managed to screw it back in…now I have looked closely the nut/bolt/split pin/whatever that holds the turn screw onto the chassis is missing. Anyone know if I can replace this easily with something from a DIY store? And if so what size?

Can't help with that information Herby but if you're off immediately and have little time to locate something suitable, you can use a car bottle jack or similar as a stop-gap.

Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

If its a straight forward nut and bolt you should be ok it will almost certainly be metric.
on the other hand if its something like this (and that might not be the right one)

Then your chances of finding one the right sort locally are very low.
As Roger said some other sort of jack should do trolley or scissor ..........or even a pile of bricks and a wedge.

Thanks so much chaps. I had a closer look and it's a split pin thing by the looks of it. The problem was not so much not having a corner steady, as having one that was hanging off :-( I've managed to put it back together after realising taking it off altogether was too difficult. The pin seems to have sheared off, so if I unwind/wind up the corner steady too far, it comes apart. I don't think I can fix this myself as the broken-off pin is still in the middle of the rod, so would need pushing/drilling out with something in order to fit a new one. I guess this is one of the 'joys' of an old Puck, but annoying as I was assured everything was in good order when I bought it.

New split pins are readily available tap the old one out with an old drill bit or something that fits in the hole ...tap in a new one and bend the ends over.

I had a similar problem on my old Puck, there is a danger when screwing the legs back up to over tighten them which pushes against the split pin and the housing. The small tab at the back which keeps the split pin secured can become fatigued and in my case the tab had broken away from its weld making the screwed rod fall out. I had to take the leg off and give it to a welder to reweld the seams.
