I want to turn the overhead light round so that the switch is the other end. The manual which I finally referred to after the obvious ploy of squeezing the glass together after easing the end out didn't work.
The manual showed me I was doing the right thing, but the glass wouldn't budge. The end does ease away slightly, the glass is quite rigid.
I know I have lost strength in my hands but even then I can manage some things and this should be easy.
Am I missing something?
In one end there appears to be a small screw but it's not a Philips etc.

Right, here we go, Derek.
1. The small Torx screw in the end plate does not need to be removed.
2. Removing the 'glass' (it's plastic really) is difficult and will be a problem if you have impaired grip. As you can see though, it does come off but with a bit of a struggle.

I concentrated on the switch end (left in the picture) and eased it outwards while gently squeezing on the white plastic diffuser (not the perforated metal part). By pulling it downwards at the window side while squeezing it, I managed to release the rear edge. When that was done it was easy to pull the diffuser towards the switch end and waggle it free at the front.
3. This is why you have to squeeze the diffuser to release it. The two edges locate on internal parts of the unit. I found that it's easier to free one edge first and not try to do both at once.

4. Once you get this far, it should be a simple job to rotate the fitting so that the switch is at the other end. The unit is held by two screws through the base of the lockers to which it is fixed. One can be seen just near the tip of my screwdriver. These screws are held by the two square captive nuts that you can see in the first picture so all you would need to do would be to remove them both, rotate the fitting and refix the screws. This is assuming that there is enough slack in the cable to allow this.

5. Replacing the diffuser is a bit of a fiddle. I put the rear edge in first and the eased the front edge upwards until the ends clipped back into place.
As I said, it's a bit of a fiddle but apart from that it's a pretty straightforward job.
Hope this helps.
PS Another approach might be to remove the two Posidrive fixing screws, rotate the unit and then replace them all without dismantling the unit.. As the nuts are captive, this shouldn't be a problem. I must stress though that I didn't try this myself so I'm not certain that it would work.

Job jobbed. Couldn't get the glass out so undid the screws to the cabinet. Turning the fitting didn't allow the inner cables to go back through the cut out in the fitting, so I drilled 2 new holes and inch along and that did it. To line holes and screw points inside, I had to remove the glass but that was much easier working on it low down rather than overhead for my old bones, dexterity and eyesight. It was easier to clip it back in.
The old screw holes can't be seen.
Thanks again Brian.
