Carry on Caravanning
There are one million caravans in Britain and more than 400 caravan clubs. The mobile holiday homes have never been more popular—the industry is currently worth £6b to the UK economy, and they are seeing some of their fastest growth among holidaymakers in their 20s and 30s. So get ready to meet Britainʼs fun-seeking, slow lane- hogging “carafans”.
They come from all backgrounds and all parts of the country, but they all have one thing in common. In the face of angry drivers, jet-set snobs and the Great British weather, these intrepid travellers spend all the free time they can get with their fellow “carafans” and their cherished box of delights.
In this funny, character-driven documentary, viewers meet a colourful cast of caravanning characters as they cross the country on a weekend break. Itʼs a “Little Britain” world that feels familiar yet strange at the same time, holding up a microscope to the UK in 2015. They might not be cool, they might not be popular, and they might not collect many air miles. But they are a close-knit community who would not swap their mobile maisonettes for the world. And if you donʼt like them, well you can kiss their caravan!

Bloody hell! That will have confirmed a lot of people's prejudices that all caravanners are nutters. I'm only glad I didn't see it before we bought ours.

How embarrassing, the Sun tan Johnny couple had left a no2 in the bowl from their previous trip...
The cassette emptying pit was also a bit primitive on the site they were on, it was only a 6" pipe that was flush to the ground with no means to swill the cassette
When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

I watched the majority of the program which I know was meant to be a bit "tongue in cheek" but would have put me off the idea of caravanning.
It was tabloid television at it's worst.

Quote: crow wrote in post #7You've sort of answered your own question.
Did they round these people up especially?
still as long as they Rally together and don't
bother "normal" folk .....
I didn't see the programme, but by and large normal people make for very dreary television.
Almost everyone who watches anything reality-based is secretly hoping to see a car crash or for someone get arrested, pissed, lairy, injured, make complete fools of themselves or exhibit some kind weird or idiosyncratic behaviour.
Much as we might like to think we are above that kind of detached voyeurism, we aren't - it's part of human nature.

It was grim, Pete, I mean truly grim.
Being on the same site let alone on the next pitch to some of those prats would ruin anyone's holiday.
I really empathised with the two women who were agonising over whether or not to swap their huge Airstream that was done out inside like a whore's garret for an even huger one costing £80,000. I was so happy for them when they decided to have it.

So glad there were no Eribas on show, would hate to be tarred with the same brush as these cretins. I thought about taking my roulette wheel and formal suit away with me, but thank god the thought only lasted 1second. Scrabble, a pair of my favourite shorts and a good old Remoska any day of the week. The pig race made me a bit emotional as well.

Just goes to show what a better class of people Eriba owners are. Have only attended Eriba rallies. the thought of pitching up near any of those people would make me move site pronto. Oh dear, am I turning into my mother?.

It was car crash TV and if I was a viewer considering 'vanning, it would have put me right off - Not a good advert for the 99% of decent normal participants out there.
