Connecting and disconnecting your electrical hook up cable.

Pete's recent mention of having received a potentially fatal mains voltage shock from his caravan electrics has prompted me to remind members, and in particular newcomers to caravanning, that there is a safe and an unsafe way to connect and disconnect the EHU cable. The basic rule is:

When connecting to the mains always plug your cable into the caravan first.

When disconnecting from the mains always unplug the cable at the supply socket first.

I make no claim to be an expert on electricity so for your own peace of mind please read one or both of the following:

Caravan Club Electrical Safety Advice

Caravan and Camping Club Electrical Safety Advice

I note that both organisations advise that before connecting or disconnecting the electricity you should first switch off the residual current device (RCD) on your electrical distribution panel. I must remember to do that.
