A better table
Our Troll came with the very heavy table which stows under the seat base. It's one of those made from gigantic girders riveted together with colossal rivets the size of vestry doorknobs. It's a piece of large scale engineering Mr Brunel would have been proud of.
There's nothing wrong with it other than its clumsiness. It does a first-rate job of preventing things you put down from dropping to the floor, something which is always high up on the list of a table's desirable qualities.
It's plenty big enough for our needs, and it's certainly strong enough. Were we thirty five carefree years younger we might even have been tempted to test its strength in a re-enactment of one particular scene from The Postman Always Rings Twice (the Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange version) but a combination of modesty and the passage of time means that this is now unlikely.
Which is a pity, but there you go.
So by and large it does what a table should. It's just that it is heavy, and awkward, and I wince every time Mrs Pete wrestles it into the caravan and back into its hangers because of the stream of earthy expletives accompanied by loud thuds and muffled crashes which make it sound as if she's attempting to subdue an irate hippopotamus rather than just stowing a piece of camping furniture.
Are there any good alternatives? Something of a similar size but at least 350kg lighter would be excellent, and better still if it folded up relatively small. Does such a thing exist?
I'm sure I remember something about folding tables on the graveyard that is the other forum before I was booted off it.
Does the name Brunner ring any bells in the table context?
What should I be looking for other than yet another course of under-the-counter steroids for an already fearsome wife?
.
We bought 2 x aluminium tables from Morrison's I think they were £10 each, they fitted back to back in the original slot made for the "Supertable" saved a hell of a lot of weight, I did post it on here at the time, I'll try and find a picture for you
Found, it's not that good you can just see them on the left handside in the table slot with a cover on them, the front table has 2 x dukdalf chairs in a similar cover (Mrs Agger does like covers)

What I was hoping was that someone might have been able to recommend a particular table.
And Mr Agger. Thanks very much for the picture, but I have to confess that I struggled to find anything in it which even remotely resembles a table. Lots of weird little shrunken animals and things hanging up, but no table.
You and Mrs Agger aren't into voodoo, are you?

Sorry Mrs Agger called me away for tea, just posted a picture of one outside, as I say we bought 2 hth
The small table on the back central cupboard is an Ikea special £5 and when not in use lies flat in the bottom of a troll wardrobe, I like clean & tidy

We bought the same folding table as above but after just one season, the fastners on the legs no longer held the legs sufficiently in the long position when any extra pressure or weight was put on the table - e.g. food! We now use it as an outdoor coffee table or put the cadac on it in the low position, but its dangerous in the high position - we had dinner all over the floor once. We have another on which is square which is just as bad. I wouldnt recommend.
2010 VW T5 & 2014 Triton, both in silver.
The search for a decent table is like the search for appropriate chairs or the right awning. It is almost a rite of passage!
We also suffered the Hymer colossus for a while and the latest version is as heavy and unwieldy as ever but is no longer stowed under the bed. They expect us to transport it laying flat on the bed held in place by poppers on short strips of webbing attached to,the wall and fridge end. It is stupid!
Ours is now confined to the garage.
We have an extensive collection of other tables that have been tried and tested. Sometimes tested to destruction but all too quickly. Any versions with telescopic legs held by screws have failed. Some of the Aluminium ones have quickly become battered and dented because they are of too light a construction. And most of those with plastic tops are not drink friendly being too bendy although they may add some extra movement to the reenactment scene!!!
We have found that there are some blow moulded tables with folding legs that seem to be substantial and some are bifolding. However they will have to be carried in the car.
Brunner camping extras are appearing more commonly these days in the larger accessory shops like Homestead. They make a largish aluminium table with slatted top and X shaped folding legs which might be suitable. I could photograph it for you tomorrow if you like but only if you send me a pic of the lovely Mrs P lightly dusted with flour!
Yours occasionally
