Hi Everyone
I've just joined the forum as we're collecting a 1978 Triton from Holland in 2 weeks. We really can't wait as we've wanted one for 3 years. After more soggy tenting this year, enough was enough and it's given us the push to get one.
I was wondering how warm they are in the winter, are the older vans insulated for winter use? We have two young children and are keen to use it in the colder school holidays :-)
Many thanks
Charlotte

Not too sure about the older Eribas, ours (2004) has a gas fire fitted but we mainly use a small oil filled radiator which is more than enough to keep us warm. Eribas are well insulated, plenty of people use them all year round, we were sleeping in ours Boxing Day night this year when the weight of snow on the roof brought the pop top down, still plenty warm.
Good luck, try and get some sleep (too excited probably) and enjoy yourselves whatever the weather.

Wow that's some plunge going over to Holland. That's brave. Where did you find it.

Hi Julie
Many thanks for the info. Oil filled radiator sounds good, we'll try this. Not a lot of sleep is going on TBH, so much to organise and soo excited!!

Hi, we've been looking on marktplaats and found one with a dealer. They seem to be a big outfit with good reviews so we hope all will be well
We thought we would have a bit of an adventure in Holland while we are there and catch the train to Amsterdam. We have never towed (about to practice with a friends van) nothing like jumping in at the deep end

Hi Charlotte and welcome to Eribafolk. Sounds like a great find. We'd love to hear more details about how you go about locating a van abroad and how the deal is done as a reference for other members.
Your Eriba should be just as well insulated as the newer ones. They normally have 25mm insulated side walls and a 35mm insulated floor. The coldest bit will be through the Poptop but if it gets too cold at night then the simple answer is to put the roof down.
The Netherlands is a wonderful country so make the most of your stay. Towing, especially abroad, is a lot easier than in the UK. Don't forget to get a pair of extension mirrors for the car. They are a Godsend especially when driving abroad and don't forget there's a towing speed limit in the Netherlands of 50mph.

Hi Randa,
Thanks for the info. We started thinking about buying from Holland after finding the attached document through google. We also have a dutch friend who lives nearby. His parents caravan a lot and come over from Holland frequently so they have been on hand with advice also. There seems to be much more choice over there and with the exchange rate being pretty good at the moment it seemed like the right time. The dealership Jan van Schaffelaar Caravans have been very helpful and speak very good English so fingers crossed it will go smoothly. I will keep you posted!

Hi,
We bought out Triton off Marktplatz 5 years ago like you, and have loved it ever since, the 240 volt sockets will be different, the Dutch use twin round pins with side earth Schuko
http://www.iec.ch/worldplugs/typeF.htm or http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity...-and-sockets/f/
Its easy enough to change the sockets or like us just buy some plugs to put on the thing you will use in the van, you can even buy leads ready made up off the net, as for warmth, we removed the gas heater from ours and use a 700w oil filled rad or sometimes a small fan heater for quick warmth which has proved to be enough down as far as -5c

Hi Dave
That's very reassuring to hear, thank you! Like you we aren't too bothered by using 2 pin sockets, we've been tenting it in France the last couple of years so have the adaptors ready to use.

thought of doing the same but a dealer in Norfolk sourced exactly what I wanted so I bought from him. But I did look at the same dealer in Holland that you mention and was looking forward to an adventure, but when the Eriba came in to Norfolk it was converted to UK and ready to go so wasn't worth me doing the import. Good Luck on your adventure and by the way from a first time towee the Eriba's are so easy you wonder what you were concerned about.

Hi Randa, thanks again for your advice. You mention extra side mirrors, I didn't think these were needed with an Eriba. Do you need them even though Eriba's are narrower?
