I have to agree with that replacing only one side is considered bad practice as replacing one side will result in better braking on one side meaning that the car will pull to one side instead of breaking in a straight line.
Does the car not have a brake pad wear warning light? most modern cars do........ as the pads wear a wire in them sets off a warning light when they wear too much.
