Hi Everyone
We are looking at buying a new troll 540gt and as we are new to caravanning wondered what essential options should be included.
We wondered what the experts would include if they were going to buy new! ie water, electric heating systems etc.
Thanks
NickandJudy

Blown air.
In a 540 it improves the heat circulation and turns the bathroom into an excellent drying room.

Ultraheat.
This is an electric element added to the gas fire. On campsites with electric hook up your heating is therefore 'free'.

Motormover.
For parking, hitching or pitching. The 540 is a little heavy for manual moving.

Certainly agree with numbers 1 and 3, Mr P.

I've no experience of the Ultraheat since we haven't got one, and while I take the point about having paid for your electricity already, an electric element retrofit wouldn't make much sense for us. Nearly 300 notes buys an awful lot of propane.

Anyway, that's by the by - the other thing Nick and Judy might think about is the fresh water supply and the relative merits of an Aquaroll with an external drop-in pump compared to an onboard tank and all the faff of filling it with a watering can.

And onboard hot water. Ours came with it, but if we were in the fortunate position of being able to specify a new one I'd almost certainly go for it.

Hello NickandJudy
We have just ordered ours from AL and went with hot water, electric heat, external water with no on- board tank, comfort seats upfront and the usual AL GT and recommended spec, aLso went for the bike rack mod and their current mover offer. We didn't take the fan/ blown air option as we have only found it is effective when using gas which we tend not to do. We do like to use the electric heater overnight as a low temp setting.

We were tempted with the 540 looks very big inside but went for the 530 fixed bed for the convenience.

Alloy wheels, stabiliser, side hatch, wheel lock, blown air heating with ultraheat element, maybe hot water (we had it but hardly ever used it) possibly a mover (we never had one, we have a sloping gravel drive with about an inch clearance either side, but never felt the need, as I can reverse!!! However on a Troll and other Eriba they are a popular extra) No on board water tank for us (3 ltr water bottles x 3 or 4 and a watering can for cleaning!) Solar panel whether optioned or retro fit? If you have a choice (which I doubt) think where you stow your spare wheel, most are underslung at the rear (a real pain if you should ever need to change it) a while ago some Eriba were delivered with a spare wheel hanging on the rear undeer the window, it was a covered wheel (so no extra sun degradation to worry about).

I might even think ablout a vinyl wrap for the roof only, there is a thread on here which shows vinyl wrapping.

I've probably missed something but thats Eriba ownership for you

Hi
Many thanks for all your input this is really invaluable information looks like agreement on the water and electric side.
Does anyone use the solar panel option I think they offer a suitcase portable type?. Also are the comfort seats option in the dinette area and are they comfy.
Again great input as picking the right options can help with keeping the overall price down.

More thoughts on this as you say you are new to it,

Buy 2 x 25m ehu cables rather than 1 x 50m (We can't remember ever having used 50m so maybe 1 x 25m & 1 x 10m?).

Think of internal storage, many modify their Eriba, we did'nt, we used large "trolley bags" which will go under the seat.

Don't carry anything that you don't use!! You won't know for a while but when you do, leave it behind.

I'll add more to this later after I've been to RUGBY!!

To help keep the price down I would be checking out other sources for things like the solar panel as the 'Official Dealers' will be more expensive than most other suppliers.

Am I correct in thinking that if you have the comfort seat option they cannot be used to make up a bed, obviously if you have a fixed bed this is not going to be an issue but if you choose a dinette option where do you put the extra seat cushions during the day?
