Don't get access to the iPlayer over here, Roger, but did read the newspaper article. As is printed near the bottom - this affair still has some way to run yet. In fact, in some quarters, it has yet to be decided (probably in court) whether or not the 'cheat software' is actually cheating here in Europe which is down to the words used in EU legislation. At the end of the day it all comes down to how much this is going to cost VW and although highly irritating to consumers affected, the manufacturer is obviously seeking to pay out as little as is possible. For manufacturer read share holders of course.

Opel is Vauxhall over here and those results are why I changed to a petrol model.
