Sadly we are both about the worst DIY folk ever and have the greatest respect for those with the necessary confidence and skill!
Excuse me!!! There is a queue for owners claiming that Derek and I are I Believe tying for FIRST place unless of course you know better
Maybe it should be a prerequisite of being an Eriba owner, but then there are those who are Masters of the art of diy, whatwith their Sonic drivers etc
Likes to wax and have a smooth finish! 😎
I am above no one and no one is below me

wouldn't a front mounted towbar bike carrier make the nose weight higher ?
My Audi user's manual states that the car should be fully loaded when towing with its tyre pressures raised to the fully-laden figure and with the nose weight of the caravan as near to the maximum specified by the tow bar manufacturer as possible. In practice that's very hard to achieve.
A front-mounted carrier could well be the answer.

Brian is spot on as usual.
I bought one of these Milenco noseweight gauge when I first got the caravan but I can't remember the last time I used it although it has a permanent place in the gas locker. I suppose that if the caravan feels OK when towing (and I have on occasion forgotten that I had it attached) the tendency is to think that everything is hunky-dory. Also, if you do a check and adjust your loading accordingly, you can assume that the next time you use the caravan and load it in the same way, the noseweight will the same, as near as makes no difference.
Next time I have the caravan fully laden for the off, I'll do an experiment with the Milenco and compare it with the reading from the more common 'bathroom scales and piece of batten' method and report back.
Are those built-in jockey wheel gauges any good, I wonder? But without direct comparison with a guaranteed-to-be-accurate gauge, how would anyone know? I sense another experiment coming on.

Apologies for an out and out sales pitch, but with this thread running it seemed appropriate. I have surplus to requirements from my recent Troll purchase a rather solid bit of kit called a 'Twinny' - I think it's basically this one here.

The previous owners of the van had had an adapter bracket made which clamps to the drawbar and then the carrier fixes into it. I've attempted to attach a picture. If it is of use to anyone, you can have it for £50 but I'd rather not post it, it would be a bu%%er to pack.. I'm in Cambridge
Actually, It seems I have failed to add a photo. If anyone is interested, get in touch and we can sort something out.

I see bikes as hard work when I have to take a car anyway,
I took the bike rack that came with my Triton off the back and stuck it in the garage it
1 spoils the look of the van
2 ruins the view from the rear window.
3 stops you opening the rear window.
For information to whoever asked (can't remember now) it weighs almost nothing being made mainly of alloy tubing but makes a nasty mess of the awning rail at the back as the fittings go right through it and into the rear lockers .... you also end up with 2 bolts coming through into the van under the table
will look for the relevant topic
Here we are ................ found it
How to: Remove a Rear Mounted Cycle Rack
This topic has a close up shot of how it damages the awning rail.

Edit. also forgot to mention fitted winter covers do not fit over one so you may have to remove it every winter to fit a cover.
