Hi all
Every time we have Elsie serviced, the technician advises that we should have a battery box. As we have an AGM battery, I do not see the logic behind his suggestion, but am willing to give it a go if there is a practical reason for it and it is not just something on his ticklist from the MCEA. Do folks have them and if so why?
Thanks
Charlie

Hi Charlie. We have one which looks something like this:- http://www.yachtshop.co.uk/battery-box-s...CFQcIwwodG_cMiQ
It also has a strap around it to fix the lid in place.
It was in our Eriba when we purchased it and I presume it was fitted so as to protect the battery and all the other odds and ends that are shoved in the locker around the battery.

No, Charlie, we personally don't have a battery and so no box obviously but one reason for having them perhaps is to prevent you accidentally shorting across the terminals as remote as that might possibly seem.

I have had two new Eribas and both came with a fitted leisure batteries as part of the upgrade pack from Hymer and they did not supply any battery boxes. The first one was a Banner GEL battery and the second one is a vented Varta battery. Both batteries are securely clamped to the floor with a fitted cover on the terminals.
I have two plastic storage boxes with lids for my utensils which fit under the bench where the battery is so there is nothing loose to knock it.
When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

We had a vented leisure battery in our old triton. Whilst on a a very windy night in Spain we decided to take down the awning and on lifting my bed to start putting things away I found that the battery had exploded with such force that the separating board had been shattered. Needless to say I was very shocked, we had acid in the bed box giving off fumes etc. The battery had exploded about 2 hours earlier, I am a lightsleeper but didn't hear it, my neighbours did!
I suppose it's true what they say you don't hear the bomb that gets you.
We spent the next 11 hours trying to neutralise the acid and clear up, as well as taking down the awning in a hollowing gale.
We are now in the no battery required club. As we usually use sites with EHU this has been no drawback, giving us more payload and less to worry about. Even when we wild camp on the odd night on our travels to Spain or where ever the lack of battery hasn't been a problem.
So if do have to have one then please get a strong battery box.
