Sky light
Just looking for something to do as darling daughter ,hubby and little un have high jacked our eriba for the week off to darkest Devon passports at the ready.
Why would you have a sky light in the roof of a eriba ? Good or bad idea their has been two with these lately were they ever sold with a skylight

I believe the sky light is an option and I have seen one at Automotive Leisure. The impression I got was that it was a little small. If you had decided that you would like one then there are a variety of after market sizes available. There is also the option of fitting a fan type which can be switched to blow or suck and have variable speeds.
It might be nice to see the sky at night or have increased light to the interior but...........well each to their own!

One of the main criticisms I have of the Eriba is the amount of light that penetrates in the morning via the poptop canvas. Do the skylights have an effective blackout or do they make the unwanted light problem worse, I wonder?
And that has just reminded me that while in France last month, I saw two Eribas with black poptop canvas, no doubt for this very reason.
Does anyone know if black canvas is a factory option or had the owners of the vans either replaced their canvas or alternatively dyed it black? (There's a thought!)
Have any of our members got black canvas?

At the moment Lidl is selling fairly large sheets of radiator insulation which is probably a better size and cheaper than the car window shades

Smart! That's an ingenious solution to the problem.
Is it all one piece? Do you only use it in cold weather? If used in warm weather, do you take it down during the day for access to the vents?
Where do you store it when not in use during the day?

It is all one piece and rolls up very tight and I use a bit of knickers elastic to keep it in place, it doesn't take much room up, I keep it behind the toilet wall in the front bay during the day.It is kept in place by the roof handles and the toilet compartment. I have a long stretch with no support and for that I use a bit of pipe insulation which is jammed from the bottom roof to the top roof, the flexibility of the pipe insulation allows the roof to move if required with the wind/snow etc. The blind sits behind the lip of the lower roof and just touches the top roof, it isn't bar tight to to the canvas so if required the vents can be open whilst it is in situ for hot summer nights. I don't use it during the daytime as I have never been that cold to use it but I would assume if your a winter camper it could make the warm up time and retention of the heat a lot better. It was made originally to keep the sunlight out in the early hours but it also has the added benefit of keeping the heat in, and at night time it reflects the limited internal light back into the van . I also use a bit of pipe insulation on the bottom edge of the window blinds and this also keeps the sunlight out of my eyes, making for a lovely lie in.....
It probably only takes about 30 seconds to put up and even quicker to take down, when the insulation is in Aldi it is wide enough to make two blinds for the Familia. The piece of pipe insulation that I use for the long supporting stretch is used as the centre core when I roll the blind up.
It doesn't cause any condensation and the canvas is always dry when you take it down, it's the usual strip round the lower roof that gets the condensation....

I am on my mark two blind now Roger, it was another Eribafolk member that suggested the insulation foil from Aldi after they saw my first attempt. It is silvered bubble wrap, similar to the stuff they use on campervan conversations.

Hi lots of pro and cons good thinking about letting more light in first thing in the morning but I think it's just one more area that may leak and if you had a thunder storm like darling daughter had yesterday in Devon I would be concerned about flooding

We remember many years ago our next door neighbours had a small conventional caravan with a leaky sky light.
Their solution was to remove the acrylic dome and pop an umbrella up through the hole when they parked up.

Well I would of never thought of that ,we had roof lights in our camper that used to pop open if we went over 60mph early air con we soon learnt to keep the speed down ,until we replaced them with new ones and then I couldn't open them they were so strong .
