We use a 3.4litre Superkettle both at home and in the van.
They come from a firm called Newtonz at http://www.superkettles.co.uk/html/sales.html
It uses only 700watts when heating, and keeps the tank of water ready to make tea or coffee instantly. We find a tank full lasts us a day quite easily. Takes about 25 minutes to heat a full tank up from cold.

We use a low wattage toaster and also a Superkettle which is also good for having hot water all day.

Hi barny.
You're probably aware of the formula. We have a low wattage kettle and toaster as we do a lot of our touring abroad where low amperage in quite normal.
Mrs R is quite often seen working out in her head Amps = Watts/Volts
Therefore a low wattage kettle (900w) + a low wattage toaster (700w) = 1600w
A = 1600/230 = 7amps therefore quite good on a 10amp site (not so good on a 6amp site )
These look OK to me:-

but there are probably cheaper ones around.

Hi 😀
I use a 'value' toaster I got from Argos. If you look around, the cheap unbranded toasters tend to be low wattage so are perfect for hook up. Unlike the diddy specialist camping toasters they take a proper size slice of bread!!!
The kettle I use is a Kampa bubble. Nothing fancy but does the job for filling my cafetiere, which is the stainless steel double wall type so keeps coffee warm to give me plenty of time to make the toast 😊😊
Hope that helps

There is another way of looking at it - instead of using two weedy low-wattage 'caravan' appliances at the same time, why not use a decent kettle then unplug it and use a decent toaster while your cup of splosh is brewing?
That way you get water which hasn't taken an hour to boil, and toast which doesn't look as if it needs to be treated for acute anaemia.

Morning Barny,
We have always used normal kettles and normal toasters in the van. Never even thought of using low voltage stuff to be honest. We have never had a problem using either, both here and abroad. We don't tend to have the toaster and kettle on at the same time, but breakfast has never suffered!
Cheers Mark

We always only use the kettle independently of the toaster wherever we camp (old habits and all that ) but we found that a normal kettle used in many of the campsites in the far south of France and bits of Spain and Italy, was forever tripping the EHU.
Many of these campsites are 5amp or even as low as 3 amp.
At one camp site we were fortunate enough to benefit from another caravanner's misfortune. His car and van were terminally broken down so he had to clear out all his belongings before being transported home and seeing us having to boil water in a saucepan he donated his nearly new low amp kettle to us as we couldn't find one to purchase locally.

Incidentally, what's happened to all the default smilies? There are lots of fancy new ones, but the ones up at the top next to the text colour thing have gone. Can we have them back?

We would have eventually got round to it but the offer came first.
The Box of Smilies:- Yes, I noticed that yesterday and although they disappeared at roughly the time the Xmas Emoticons were added I can see no apparent link. I'm looking in to it at the moment.
