A funny thing happened on the way to the forum.
We wonder if anybody has a funny Eriba related or camping related story to tell?
Over the years we have read about many incidents that have occured, eg. Aaron Calder being shot on his Eriba doorstep and Poptop320 having a bit of a do with some land grabbing wobbly box owners. Hope they'll re-live them and other stories with us
We wonder if Campnsnooze will share a rather funny event that occured at Stratford this year?
As for us, we've got so many it's impossible to list them all. However, we found that one of the funniest was earlier this year at the Eriba Euro Fest.
We had just returned to the campsite after an enjoyable evening at a local Fez Noz with the Grafos, the Papasmurfs and the Seaviews. As it was late we all decided to turn in.
As usual before bed, we decided to make a last visit to the loo. At this particular campsite the toilet facilities were unisex. Just after Mrs R and I had settled in our respective cubicles we heard the shuffle of hurried feet before two cubicle doors slammed in unison.
This was followed by a little innocent voice stating " do you know Neil, although we've been married for many years, this is the first time we've had a pee together". It was Julie and Neil Grafo and, for fear that they might start talking about us I though it better to quickly chip in with " and it's also the first time you've peed together with us Julie and probably a few other Eribafolk".
The four of us just couldn't stop laughing.

Ok Roger, I thought what went on tour stayed on tour.
To continue this theme and encourage others here is my offering, as you have already pinched the EuroFest story.
It happened when we were living in the Eriba in our garden whilst building work was being undertaken (see my blog if you are at all interested).
Having finished work for the day we got ready for bed as normal. ALL our clothes were either hung up or put in the laundry bag in the wardrobe. Without wishing to upset anyone of a delicate nature neither of us normally indulge in pyjamas. I managed to catch something in the bar that runs up and down from the wardrobe door handle. Despite all of our best efforts the door wouldn't budge. Things were getting desperate, it was midnight, neither of us had a stitch to wear and Neil had to go to work the next day at 6am. A lot of Eriba wardrobe doors have been known to fall off, not this one. Trying to dismantle the shelf up above didn't work. My name was mud as I was the one who had caused the problem. Eventually after a lot of Anglo Saxon words were exchanged, there isn't a lot of space left to stand and work in a PuckL with the bed made up and did I mention that we were both NAKED, Neil attacked the door mechanism, removed the door handle and the internal bar and broke into the wardrobe. Problem solved, the internal bar thingy still hasn't been put back. The door closes and nobody can jam it now.

Oh Keith is not gonna be let to forget his faux pas!!. We were new to caravanning and were looking forward to our first Eriba meet at Stratford in April. On arrival it was amazing to see all the Eribas in their different sizes, colours, flag poles and awnings laid out in front of us. Randa came over to welcome us and we duly unpacked and set up. Over the following 4 days we walked around the site, was invited in to many of the vans, took photos and most of all spent quite a few hours inside or outside the Randa's van where much of the gathering took place. (So Keith should know where their van is and what it looks like!!).
On the last day, Keith was talking to Roger (Randa) regarding the door pictures they were going to put on the Eribafolk site. Keith came back to the van to get his camera and return to Rogers van. Must add here that the Randa's have a Troll (largest size), a flag pole with various flags including Eribafolk and the welsh flag on it, and an open fronted awning and an open door. He had then returned to the van to what he thought was Randa's and opened the door. The next moment we hear Keith shouting and chasing 2 little dogs across the campsite!!! In turn various persons helped Keith to round up the dogs. What had happened?? He had gone next door, opened the door and let out the dogs belonging to Steve and Bev (Morphy). What was worse, they had a Puck (smallest van), an enclosed awning and only one flag on their flagpole....how can you get it so wrong!! The moral of the story....Keith, you never open a door that is closed as you don't know what you will find and the song "Who let the dogs out" will always remind me of his embarrassment over this cock-up. His apologies again to the Morphy's.

When I was at Wenslydale CC site a gentleman stopped to talk whilst I was outside adjusting my aerial for the umpteenth time , he said he had been trying for days to get a signal and he even had his aerial pointing the same way as mine? That's funny I said I've been looking at your aerial and I've been trying for days as well.....

Sometimes having the smallest outfit on the site like with our previous Puck/Suzuki Jimny car can be a disadvantage, a few years ago we got a nice pitch at Coniston CC site with loads of room.
The family opposite with a massive van decided to put their chairs on our pitch as they followed the sun. Not a smile or a hello as they plonked the chairs down. After a good blasting of radio 4 the archers (which I also don't like) they went back to their own pitch. Some cheek!
The chairs you can see were the wobbly box interlopers...

Nothing like a good chat up line.
Earlier this year when on a campsite in Portugal, a French couple with an Eriba Pan & VW Touran parked in the adjacent pitch. A nice couple.
Late that evening me and the missus made the short walk to the loo for our final call of the day. Once I had finished I waited outside the ladies toilet door for Mrs R to appear and within a short while I saw her through the open door walking towards me from the cubicles.
I turned and strolled in the direction of our Eriba and her footsteps soon caught me up at which time I started talking about it being a lovely evening and what we should do tomorrow and the fact I couldn't wait to get to bed (I was tired). At that point she set off towards our neighbour's van so I turned and was about to say "you stupid woman" ('allo 'allo style) when I realised that I'd been chatting up the neighbour's wife. Mrs R was only now leaving the toilet having stopped to wash her hands.
I'm sure she does it on purpose for last year while on a bike ride in France I had to stop for her to catch up. Once she was alongside I set off again sure in the knowledge that she was right behind me because of the shadow she and the bike cast and the noise of the pedals.
Again I was chatting away about this and that and after about 5 minutes I slowed down and said "shall we stop for a while at that bench over there" at which point a 6' Frenchman on a bike cruised past me and gave me one hell of a glare. The missus was 100 yards back......again.

Only a bit funny for us but not the WWB owner"
A balmy summer evening, sitting under our skirted fishing brolly with a glass or two of wine looking at the Malvern Hills over which there was a fantastic lightning display - all is well.
then
somewhere on the site a bloke with a guitar starts strumming gently - all is well
then
bloke with guitar starts singing - badly - all is not so well
then
BANG - an explosion
then
a shout of FIRE
himself grabs water bottles and fire bucket, I head off to sound alarm
The caravan owned by the bloke singing badly has killed itself in order to make him stop - the bang we heard was the fridge being blasted out of the side of the caravan. Luckily for him, and the rest of the people gathered in his awning, the fridge was on the opposite side otherwise the consequences don't bear thinking about.
Phil , being the sensible type, pulled the electric cable from the bollard, and told the rather shocked bloke to turn off the gas at the bottle - he couldn't because the gas locker was locked and the keys were inside the van which he was reluctant to enter. Anyroadup by the time the Fire Brigade arrived the keys had been retrieved, the gas was turned off, there was no fire and we returned to our wine and lightning display.
Just makes you think tho' we used to lock our gas locker now if we are on site the locker is left unlocked. Except for when we are leaving the van unattended in which case we turn off the gas and lock up.
Denise & Phil

Has anybody else noticed that some caravaners have an unfortunate habit of putting their dog plop bags on the back of their tow bar I have seen many a happy camper driving into the local town with the little parcel rhythmaticly swaying from side to side.... Ah the joys of camping.....

Many years ago we were staying on a big campsite in Fréjus called la Baume, which extends into another campsite called La Palmeraie. As we were camping with another family and hordes of kids, we had chosen this all singing and dancing site; the sort of place we now avoid. It had loads of entertainment, pools and sporting activities, catering for everyone. One evening there was a karaoke evening at the neighbouring campsite, and a few of the kids wanted to go and join in. All the kids made their way down there on foot and Roger decided to drive us oldies over. After all the singing the kids went back up to our site to go to the disco. The adults stayed on a while for a drink. About 10.30pm we decided we’d go back to our pitches to wait for the kids to come back. Unbeknown to us the management closed off all the internal roads to both the campsites at night, leaving just the external ring-road open to vehicular traffic. This caused a little confusion as we couldn’t go back the way we had come. After about half a mile, Roger confidently swung a right and right again to where we thought we were camped – and to the rest of us’ hysterical amusement (we had had a few!) landed up in the middle of the open air disco. As we slid down in the seats we could see the horrified expressions on our kids, who were hurriedly disowning us. After clearing a space on the dance floor for us to turn round, we were politely directed to the overnight carpark by a couple of bouncers.
