Recovering additional space

A very big thank you to all for such a warm welcome to the club.

Smouse has been busy preening and purchasing new bits n bobs for the caravan and as it was a French model I have changed the power sockets over to the UK type. I am now considering recovering the space underneath the wardrobe behind the Trumatic gas heater as I have read that this is a popular project for our type of model (Puck L GT 225).

I was keen to build a wine cellar but Smouse wanted to use it as a cheese pantry but suspect that it may get a bit warm behind the heater for either so any suggestions welcome on best use of the space and are there any safety issues/concerns to be aware of in using this space?

Hi both. Although I've been aware of the different rear kitchen layout between the 225 (wardrobe in the far corner) and the 230 (wardrobe next to the door) I've only just realised that the 230 has an outside locker door on the left hand back corner.

I wonder if the 225 framework would allow for the fitting of an outside locker door in the same place? This would give easy access to the space below the wardrobe.

I understand that they are quite easy to fit.

It will be interesting to see what transpires either warnings, instructions and your attempt.

First thing that comes to mind is the flue from the heater to the roof comes through that area and any damage to that would cause harmful gasses to leak into the living area.
Also the heater requires a certain amount of air circulation at the rear to prevent overheating, my service engineer required me to empty the wardrobe to gain access to the area for some sort of test during my last service.

My recommendation would be to leave well alone and look to save space elsewhere if needed.

Don'r know how it worked but I seem to remember "crow" removing the bottom of the wardrobe and fitting some sort of basket that held all the shoes. Having said that we haven't bothered in our PuckL and have always managed to find plenty of storage space. There is that huge area that runs off the wardrobe towards the kitchen area, we had the van for several months before I even found that one.

Good suggestion but not sure I would be confident in fitting an exterior door at this stage, but thanks for the link to the caravan supply site which has lots of other goodies that I did not even know I needed until I visited the site.

Thanks

Hob

Some good points to consider and for what additional space that will be recovered may not be worth the effort/risk.

Thanks
