Camp site recommendations in the La Rochelle area?

I thought I would post in this area in the hope that more of you seasoned campers may see it!

I am on the lookout for a nice early Puck but until I find one I will be holidaying in my trusty '71 VW T2 camper van.

I want to holiday in the La Rochelle or Royan area in France in July.

Can anyone recommend me a nice site? I would like a smallish site that is geared more to caravans and small camper vans as opposed to big white boxes and mobile homes. Beach location would be nice but I suspect that most of those sites are the more commercial ones.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi Jules.
This campsite is a particular favourite and we think Frantone and Aaron Calder would also agree. http://www.camping-puitsdelauture.com/en/index

It's In Saint Palais, about 5 miles north of Royan. Fabulous cycle track along the coast which is just outside the campsite. No swimming pool however. It is an ACSI site but that won't help in July.

There's also this one:- http://www.camping-port-punay.com/en/cam...ge/presentation. which is about 8 miles south of La Rochelle. Again a nice campsite where some of us met up in 2014 with the Eriba Owner's Club. Some safe cycling tracks outside the gate. Again an ACSI site but no advantage to you in July.

They are both quite large sites but each emplacement is demarked by hedgerows which gives a great deal of privacy.

This is the site that some of us met at for an Owner's Club Meeting in 2014. There is a bus service just outside the site into La Rochelle.

Thanks - Funnily enough I found this one on a web search this afternoon and it did appeal to me then so it's nice to get an unprompted recommendation! I seems a little smaller than many and is just what I fancied.

I guess you are based in France? What is the best way from Surrey - cross to St Malo or maybe Caen?

I'll have a look at the others as well.

Thanks for the links.

We're booked into Camping Les Varennes on the island of Il de Re which is over the bridge from La Rochelle.

No, it's wishful thinking after a failed cunning plan We're based in South Wales but like to spend time in France with our Eriba

Our preference would be the evening crossing Portsmouth/St Malo. They slow the boat down so that you can get a night's sleep. A 12 hour crossing and St Malo is easy to exit at about 8:30am and the road south is good so you should do it in a day. The Caen ferry is quicker because it caters for more commercial traffic but docks at some unearthly hour.

Here's the view immediately outside Le Puits de L'Auture to whet your appetite. Fabulous site!

And if you do stay at this campsite a visit to the French Basil Fawlty's restaurant is a must. Just 100 yards up the road and you'll have a great meal served by a very abusive BASIL (it's all an act really )

We're planning a trip to the La Rochelle area in June.
Thanks for the site suggestions.
