Hi we are looking at the possibility of getting an awning for our 2011 triton which has the higher rail I beleive than the pre 2010 models and would welcome advise, we are thinking of one which can be used as an extra room , but you can take panels out of to form a canopy in warmer weather (we live in UK ) so like to be optimistic!

Hi natjohn, like you I am looking at awnings but I have the lower rail height pre 2010. Plus I would like to have an inflatable which is even more obscure! Best thing to do is go to the NEC next month and the place will be awash with choice, however if it is especially Eriba model you want then the best choice is europe which some have ordered online and had good service. I am sure they will reply in due course.

thanks Taffy and Islay, will look into those very helpful, I've been looking at the Dutch brand unico Verona model but there's a lot of fiddling to assemble them but they look really good quality the walker awnings are easier to buy here but need to find assembly videos for them, I like the idea of inflatable! Hello Nat

We have a Walker, as do several other people on here. We bought ours second hand from Chezmart. They aren't difficult to put up. It's mostly common sense really - I just got ours out of the bags, made myself a nice cup of splosh, stood there sizing it up for a few minutes and set to.

A piece of cake. It's just a frame tent with the back missing. The most difficult bit was folding it up afterwards so that it went back in the bag. Practice without an audience and you'll have it cracked in no time at all.

There are instructions on the net somewhere (try a bit of Googling) and there are several threads on here (like this one) but at some point you're going to have to have a bash yourselves anyway.

Walkers may not be as swanky as those lovely swoopy Unicos, but they are very well made, fit properly, and there's a very helpful chap in Suffolk called Jeff Bowen who'll help you out if you get well and truly stuck.

Hi Pepe thankyou yes the walker one looks like a sensible option, and there is one offer on leisure direct at the moment, so other half is putting the pressure on, we are used to erecting tents and as long as it's not as heavy as our Outwell Montana 6 with steel girders, we'll be fine! thanks for the advise

Nat

I'm sorry if what I wrote about putting an awning up came across as being a bit patronising. It wasn't meant to be - you never know if someone used to have a job as a circus tent erector or a world-renowned expert in flea microsurgery.

Based on our limited experience of caravan awnings so far (this Walker is the first proper framed awning we've had), I'd buy another without any hesitation.

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete,
it didn't come across that way at all, I'm looking for advise and am grateful for pearls of wisdom, experience is valuable!
I'm waiting for quote from Bowen awnings now, and have a price from another online company for under £900 with a carpet, storm straps, weather strip which I guess is the white strip, etc. I'm guessing it's a good time to buy out of season.

We bought a Walker awning through Jeff Bowen for our 540 a couple of years ago and we very impressed with the service and the buying process.

Even though it wasn't in stock when we ordered it, it was delivered direct from Walker in just a couple of days.

We've only used it a couple of times, but we think it's good quality and found it quite easy to erect and take down.

Hi Keith and Sue, that's good news I down loaded the walker brochure and that specifies a few caravan measurements that they need did you have to supply that to Jeff Bowen when you ordered it ( if you call recall that from 2 yrs ago I know I would struggle!) ?
Thanks Nat

Walker are one of the few companies to cater specifically for Eriba.

The one we bought was specifically for the "new height" Troll and as far as we remember there's also one to fit the Triton.

We really love the full size awning when we make the effort to take it with us and put it up, but we also have a Oxygen 2 inflatable and an Automotive Leisure porch.

Of the three, the Walker undoubtedly looks the best, but is a bit daunting if you're staying on 3 sites in a week so need to keep erecting and dismantling.

The Oxygen is quickest to put up but looks a bit utilitarian. It's also a bit of a pain to dry if it's wet when we take it home as it comes as one piece. It does hide our bikes well, though!!

The porch awning is also quick to put up, but is smallest of our options and fills up quickly. Is easy to dry indoors as it splits to two pieces which can be dried separately.

We have a Unico Verona and I think it's rather easy to put up. Once you have slid the canvas along the awning channel, you just have to zip the outside curved pole in and attach one strap, then after just a couple of minutes you are under cover whilst you do the rest, which is 4 poles..... plus pegging. It is possible to put it up single handed but I help with it in and out of the awning channel just to keep it off the ground to keep it clean. The sides zip in quickly, as does the front, although we have only used the front twice. We have never used the skirt and wheel cover and leave those at home, can't be bothered.

We have a unico bologna and we think it's easy to put up. As Blueyonder says once it's threaded through the awning channel and the front hooping is zipped in then it all continues under cover.

Thanks very much, I looked at this one but it's a little bigger than I wanted and I want something smaller and fast to put up and take down the motorhome awning that jeff bowen has from Camptech looks interesting. I have found a nice Doreema one that may suit s will be looking at it in the NEC.
