Hi I've recently acquired a 320 GT and still learning the ropes. I'm starting to prepare the caravan for camping early this year and wondered if anybody could recommend what size gas cylinder I need? I'm planning to use propane.

Any help will be much appreciated
Peter

Hi thanks a lot for the advice and the welcome but I'm wondering if 6kg bottles can be used across the Eriba range?

They also do a smaller 3.9 kg if you want a smaller one?

I think the gas lockers are pretty much the same size in all the models.

I also use 6kg (orange container) and one has lasted me for a year. two fits in my locker but I use a small blue callor gas one carried in the locker also, for the BBQ.

Much appreciate the help - it sounds like 6kg is the one to go for.

6kg calor lite propane for me, it helps to keep the nose weight down

We carry two 6 kg calor lite propane and we're off grid when away usually so it's running our fridge as well, we've used them in our Puck / Triton 430GT and present one a Triton 430 - never had a problem - good luck / have fun

Does the Calor lite have a gauge on it to tell you what gas is left? and isn't that the green colour container? Been thinking of switching to the Lite but wondered if it is really that much lighter as I only carry the one 6kg Propane but thinking of two as sometimes I am off grid also and can then use the gas without worries especially as in winter I also use the gas heater.

Hi Taffy, the calor lite is a red container with a gauge, it is 49% lighter than the normal 6kg container

Thanks for that. Some of those were recalled last year as a number had faulty gauges and were not blocking off. I like the idea of lightness but I also have a gauge on the big one used for home bbq and the first one of those I had was leaking form the gauge had was returned for replacement.

It might be worth posting a word of caution here in so much as that it is generally accepted that for maximum towing stability one should have a noseweight as near as possible to the max applicable to the van model - with our Triton 430 the figure is 100kg - BUT also taking into consideration the max allowable weight on the towball which should never be exceeded. In our case this is 88kg but even with the vehicle we owned previously (max towball weight of 75kg) this was very often difficult if not impossible to achieve.

The van came with 2 x 6kg bottles so we immediately took one out giving us space for a few wooden blocks etc. However, the resultant weight on the tow hitch was so ridiculously light that we ended up carrying the second bottle even though we'd never get through the amount of gas then carried. Several of the Eriba range are very nose light so it pays to take this into consideration.
