Cooking (not on EHU)?

I do go to events that have no EHU and have used my little gas portable BBQ. Not ideal as it has briquettes in the base but has a lid so when cold can sit in a box and travels in the Eriba on the floor, however after use I have had to slide it under the van out of the way. However I have been looking as a Cobb oven. The web sites really looks good and as it is circular and I only carry one gas bottle I am hoping it will store in the bottle compartement next to the Propane and leave up room in the van. A friend has one and said they were really good and the cobb discs look really good and give heat for 2 - 3 hrs. I am going to investigate when in the NEC show as they will be there. Has anyone else got one or used one? Did look at Cadacs but then its just like a gas grill.

Zitat
however after use I have had to slide it under the van out of the way.
Be careful on grassy sites as starting a fire under the van is not the best form of heating.
I rarely go to non hookup sites but on the odd occasion when I have I tend to use the 3 gas burners in the van or a small camping stove outside.
Even better is the option to eat out or have salads in the summer.
Never tried or even seen a Cobb.

Hi Hob, I do let it go cold before sliding it under the van and don't use it as underfloor heating . Here is a link to the cobb, although its a bit expensive but then so are cadac bbq grills

I was impressed with the site and what they are plus a friend said they coocked a lovelly whole chicken on theirs.
i have used the gas rings in the eriba and heated up curry in tins and rice pre cooked and taken away with me, soups etc. but I sometimes have whole weekend events not on leccy so would like some other form of outdoor cooking apparatus.

Interesting , but I don't think I would use one often enough to justify the space it would take up in the van.

As I only carry one gas bottle I was thinking it would store (when cold) in the space for a second bottle in the gas locker? at the moment I have a blue 2k camping gas one in there for the BBQ.

We have a single gas burner that was 19 Euros and I also have an electric pot that does all sorts of great things - Phillips Multi-cooker. The Cobb looks great but is too pricey for me.

Afternoon Taffy,
We have a Cobb, and use it when away in the van, and at home instead of a BBQ. The thing to consider about a Cobb is that it's not just a BBQ, but is an oven, and a grddle as well.
We tend to use Australian heat beads rather than the Cobb discs, as I think they're better value, and you can add additional beads to keep the Cobb going over a long period. We bought ours from Lakeland Direct, and the accessories online from Dawsons BBQ World in Clitheroe. The basic set and accessories are not cheap, but the quality is excellent and everything is very easy to wash, unlike a BBQ. As well as the basic Cobb, we have a fry pan, fry dish, griddle and roasting rack.
It took us a couple of years to go ahead and buy one after first seeing our friends using one, but wouldn't do without it now. Haven't used the Cadac Safari since.
Can't say whether it would fit in the gas locker, but we just keep it in the bag in the car. When finished, we either leave it behind the van, or, take the heat beads out, place them in a bucket of water, and then go and wash the Cobb. There really is no mess with a Cobb.
Hope this helps, Mark

Thanks very much for the feedback. It is on the dear side but then so is the cadac. I have made my mind up the next purchase before this season is a Cobb and bits for it.

Webber BBQ had one for years wouldn't be with out it, roast, grill, pizzas, with extra skillet means you can fry too. No prob with storage and just whipped a gas bottle out of locker to use or they run on small canisters (but not cheap). Along with the Remoska the kitchen is complete.
Anyway Eriba sold so i shouldn't be here lol

Thanks for the info about Webber, they are really good quality. Will you be getting another Eriba or have you gone for something different. I am sure you still have plenty to contribute even if Eribaless so do lurk I joined 2years before getting my Eriba just tolerant from everyone about these little la boxes on wheels.
