Bulldog EM500SS
Hi guys,
Thought you may be interested in this wheel clamp.
When we got our Puck L I was disappointed to find that my existing Milenco wheel clamp didn't fit, it was too big to fit! My other problem was the wheel trims, I didn't really want to have to remove them each time I used the clamp. After a bit of research and asking advice on the forum I decided on the Bulldog EM500SS, It works by clamping round the wheel. One arm of the clamp is narrower than the other and locates, quite loosely, in on of the holes in the wheel whilst the other locates in the inner dish of the wheel.
It appears very well made with extra reinforcing steel bars welded inside the arms. I very much doubt any bolt croppers could chop it off, unless they pinch a set of hydraulic ones from the fire brigade! It is locked by means of a plunger type circular lock. I was a bit surprised that it didn't come with some sort of cover for the lock as it faces upwards and looks like it could fill with water. There is a sticker on the clamp advising you to keep it lubricated - so I'll flood it with WD40 and try and find something to cover it with.
It was very quick to apply, about 10 seconds! and about the same to get it off. It weighs in at 5.6kg and is not too bulky so should be easy to store, but no bag or case. It is advised that, for higher security, locking wheel nuts be fitted. I didn't bother as even if the wheel is removed the clamp would still be on and the thief would have to have a spare wheel or break in and use the spare, if they are prepared to go that far then nothing will stop them
So all in all I am very pleased with it and would recommend it. It cost me £78.00 including carriage and next day delivery from saundersonsecurity.co.uk

Hi, I've only just seen this post and would point out that the Bulldog Euro clamp is for alloy wheels only.

Hi Barny,
Just seen your post, when I bought the clamp didn't notice anything on the Saunderson Security site to the effect that it was for Alloy wheels only?
On www.bulldogsecure.com it states that it is fitted with protective tips to prevent damage to Alloy Wheels and that it is recommended for Alloy Wheels, nowhere, that I can find, does it say that it is for Alloy Wheels ONLY.

What size are your wheels please?
Does it make a difference?
We used to have one on the alloy wheels of our Triton but want to know if it fits on our steelwheeled Troll.

Hi Chris,
I'm sure that I'd seen it for alloy's only. You're right of course, it does say on bulldogsecure.com recommended for alloys and certainly does not discount steel wheels either. My error I'm afraid and I certainly hope I've not put any "Steel Wheelers" off from buying.
If anyone is thinking of changing to this model, there are sometimes a few on ebay at £54 including delivery. I suspect they may be catalogue returns or something similar. I also bought a pair of SAS Locking Wheel Bolts on the "Preloved" web site for £10 including delivery.
regards
barny

Could I just mention that WD40 is not a lubricant - it's a Water Dispersant - hence the name. It does provide short term lubrication by way of being liquid but that soon vanishes. Rummage around the recycling bin and find a plastic cap off something like bleach or whatever that will fit the barrel snugly. Spray the lock with silicone lubricant, wipe off excess from the outside then pop the cap on - I'm really puzzled Bulldog don't provide a cap/cover for this as the barrel lock/key system is quite fragile/vulnerable when it comes to dirt ingress.
Hi Francis & Tony
Hope you're enjoying your travels? We're off to Spain tomorrow for 10 days, flying, The Eriba gets to go in July!
Re the wheel size, sorry, don't know off hand what size ours are and she's in storage so can't just pop out to check. I suspect 13x145/155. The diameter is not an issue, it's the width of the wheel, it can be up to 220mm, that's quite a wide wheel and I suspect no Eribas have wheels that wide. There is certainly plenty of "spare" adjustment on ours.

Cheers Chris, it sounds promising. I think I will do some checking at the August Eribafolk meet rather than purchase beforehand.
We are currently in the rain outside Millau but plan to move on tomorrow in search of some sun!
A bientôt.
