Replacing a spot lamp bulb

Hi,
I want to replace all the halogen bulbs in our Puck L230 with led units. The long lamps which look a bit like strip lights are no problem ( once I figured out how to get the covers off! ), they each contain 2 x10w gy6.35 halogen capsules.

My problem is with the two spot lamps, initially I thought they contained MR16 reflector halogens but on closer inspection they to seem to contain similar halogen capsules to the "strip lights". My problem is how do I get into them. The manual says grasp the reflector and pull it off forward, trouble is, mine are slightly different to the ones shown in the manual, the reflector is flush with front of the housing and the is nothing to grasp!

On the rear of the lamp there is a protrusion with two flats on it, I thought these may be spanner flats and tried turning/unscrewing them but it just didn't feel right, being very tight and what little movement I risked seemed very graunchy. So has anybody else managed to get into these units or will I have to replace them?

Here are some photos I took of the lamps :

Two things you can try.

One is to lever the bulb out gently with a knife blade (a dinner knife rather than something really sharp) inserted carefully between the edge of the lamp shell and the bulb. Wrapping a turn of insulating tape round the blade first will lessen the likelihood of any damage.

The other is to stick the suction pad of a satnav holder to the flat face of the bulb and just pull it out.

The halogen capsule inside the bulb is part of it and not a separate thing.

What Pete said is bang on right. The complete unit comes out of the stainless steel lamp body.

I believe they are MR16 bulbs. Pete is right and you will need a sucker to pull th bulb out.
You will only need a 2w led to replace them. I tried a 5w but it was rediculously bight.

Our lamps are identical to yours. We replaced them last year with LEDs.

I thought I could remember that the bulb needed to be turned a bit, but having just had another look, they probably do pull straight out.

Thanks guys, I'll have another go at getting them out from the front, I had thought about levering them out but the gap is so tight I worried about cracking the reflector, thanks for the sucker tip, I'll give it a go if that doesn't work then I'll try levering out, with the tape wrapped knife. Not a very clever design!

I'll let you know how I get on.

The glass is quite thick. I reckon you'd need to be pretty ham-fisted to bust one if you levered it out gently.

Having said that, a sucker is a better idea - I didn't have a sucker handy the first time I wanted to get a bulb out. You can buy one for less than the cost of a stamp, but then you can buy most things for less than the cost of a stamp these days.

A large lump of 'Blu-Tac' about the size of a grape warmed in the hand and then stuck on the front of the bulb and pulled can be sufficient to remove the lamp from the holder.
