Insurance
Hello Eriba Folk. I bought Doris last year and due to work and offspring exam commitments, we've only been away twice but oh my! how I love little Doris!
This morning, Mr Flowerpotfairy said, "Flowerpot, have you insured Doris?" I'm sure it won't take most Eriba Folk long to realise that my pop-eyed expression betrayed my unforgivable oversight!
So...my request is...please may I have a little bit of advice re what type of insurance I should take out on a little 1993 perfectly formed Puck that I am emotionally very attached to.
Thank you!! FPF
I found Caravan Guard my best price, and Saga next. I am sure other folk here will come along soon and advise what is best for your vintage Eriba as mine is not quite so vintage but is equally loved.
http://www.alanblunden.co.uk/ were recommended by a forum member and were the best for me last (my first) year.

Quote: Julie Grafo wrote in post #5I got a couple of caravan quotes from Saga a while ago, and ever since then we've been getting letters at regular intervals inviting us to purchase one or more of their extensive portfolio of insurance-related products.
Saga, no nonsense, competitive price but everyone is different so shop around.
I don't really mind as it's no great hardship putting them straight back out into the recycling bin, but what has become a bit tiresome is that some wag in their office obviously thinks it's an absolute hoot to address these letters to a Mr and Mrs Shorthose.
I don't recall giving a Saga salesperson a hard time over anything on the phone, so quite why they've singled us out to be the butt of their sophisticated humour is anybody's guess.
Some people, eh?

Quote: Flowerpotfairy wrote in post #7People's advice as to which policy is best depends on a wide range of factors, many of them particular to the individual's needs and experiences. If I were to recommend any particular company it would be based partly on their reputation and what the spelling on their website is like, partly on how helpful (or otherwise) the person on the other end of the phone had been but mostly on how much it costs me.
I think what I really meant was what policy would you recommend?! FPF
I couldn't recommend anyone based on how efficiently they dealt with a claim, because I haven't had to make one.
If I were you, I think I'd start by trying a caravan insurance comparison website like this one. Bang all your details in and see what comes out at the other end. It'll give you some ideas as to how much it's likely to cost and who some of the companies are.
It's worth bearing in mind that more than one insurer will use the same underwriter, so that's where you get stuck in to Google to do a bit more digging. Just search 'Ernie's caravan insurance reviews' or whatever and read what other folk say.
Some of the bigger players - The Caravan Club, The Camping and Caravan Club, Saga and Towergate Baker, for instance - won't necessarily give you a result on a comparison website, so you'll need to do an online quote with them separately.
It's going to involve a lot of searching, entering and re-entering information I'm afraid, but at least you don't have to spend hours on the phone listening to some crappy music and being told at intervals that your business really is important to them.
There is no one size fits all answer.
Everybody's requirements are different; the van's value, its worth (not necessarily the same thing), what security measures you'll use, whether or not your intended storage site has machine gun towers and regular patrols, if you need European cover, cover for contents or maybe an awning too, how many claims you've made previously, how much the claim excess is, how much you're prepared to contribute to that excess and if you prefer plain chocolate digestives to milk chocolate ones.
And don't be surprised if there's a massive disparity in the premiums, because there will be.
