Towing cable

Hi again all,
Another silly question, Would it be ok to connect a 13 pin cable direct from eriba to car or are the two 7 pin cables a safety connection if the eriba was to become unhooked.
Thanks in advance

They are different systems.

UK vans used to have 2 x 7-pin and Continental vans 13-pin but all are now standardising on the superior 13-pin set-up.

With a 13-pin socket on the car, you can still use a 7-pin trailer or a 2 x 7-pin caravan using adapters.

Have a look here

Thanks for that, so, my eriba has a 13 pin socket, my car has a 13 pin socket, so I will be fine connecting with a 13 pin lead, no need to put in 7 pin adapters?
Thanks again

No just plug the caravan 13 pin into the car 13 pin and test all the lights and turn the fridge to 12v before you drive off.

Your caravan should have a 13 pin plug not socket ?

I'm confused now as what you describe sounds as though both caravan and car have a socket and you are asking about connecting the two together with a cable with a plug at each end. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Your caravan should have a length of cable that comes from a junction box underneath the floor and terminates in a 13-pin plug (see hob's picture above). This cable is permanently attached to the caravan. The car will have a 13-pin socket so when hitching, the plug is fitted into the socket and twisted to secure it.

This 'How to........" guide that I wrote when I replaced my damaged cable should explain things better. 13-pin cable

Also be aware that it is not standard for 13 pin car sockets to include wiring for the fridge and battery charging It may or may not have been wired this way, in addition to the standard 'road lights'. Obviously the supplementary system can be wired in to make full use of the 13 pin system :)
