Jacking Up the Eriba?
The chap from the breakdown call out wanted to put the steadies down before jacking the Eriba up to change the wheel. I wouldn't let him as I think it would stress the steadies as they would support some of the weight when jacking up so the stress is on the steadies while jacked up.
So does anyone know the best way to jack up a caravan?
I ended up telling him to jack up off the main chassis as he wanted to just use the frame
Then I put under the chocks and would't let him jack over on steadies. so anyone with the know how?
What was worrying was he was a WWB owner and said you could jack up anywhere off the frame? which to my mind no matter where it is stressing the weight of a van on the little section and could end up denting a frame, unless there are specific jacking points that I have seen can be fitted.
the axle is where I do it,
normally pull eriba onto ramps to give some more height,( once had a issue getting out hehehehe) chock wheels, ensure handbrake on car and caravan, undo wheel studs from torque tightness, i.e cracking nuts and slot the jack under,
before jacking I venture to the rear and drop the spare, and locate the metal wheel studs.
the steadies are not to be used as jacks, I read that last night in the eriba manual.

The Eriba uses either a BPW or an ALKO trailer chassis and has nothing in common with the standard ALKO chassis of a normal caravan. The manual only recommends using a Jack on the axle.
I had a similar experience a couple of years ago when I had a problem with my brakes, whilst onsite I called out the breakdown Mayday and the car mechanic wanted to remove the one shot nut but didn't have another one to replace it, I had to politely ask him not to undue the nut unless he was going to replaced it with a new one, in the end I had to call out a caravan engineer who fixed the breaks.
I think the problem with these joint breakdown services is that they are car mechanics and not trained caravan engineers. Maybe they should have some kind of basic caravan training before they are let lose on the caravans..

Before the tyre man came this morning I printed out from the manual section 13 to have for him incase he did not take my word. However he was excellent, knew how to jack it up and actually told me never to have the steadies down or it could go through the floor. Also said he was going to torque to the correct setting had I not known it as from his experience alloys are 120 torque.
Fitted the tyron bands and new tyre and my tyres were 6 year old so he is coming back as I said to replace the other side as well so he has gone away to order it and left me with the tyron band for the side he is coming back to do.
Also said as I am having 2 tyres then I get £10 discount
So if anyone needs tyres I can highly recommend www.etyres.co.uk
Even asked if he could look inside the eriba as he was very impressed with it and not seen one before.

Can anyone tell me how to jack up an Eriba when it is fitted with a mover? You cant even see the middle chassis bar. I have wanted to put axle stands under the van to take some of the weight off of the wheels but I can't see how you can raise it.
It's not really any of my business, but I'm interested why you want to take some of the weight off the wheels. Is it a concern over flat-spotting the tyres?

.[/quote] Correct, it is a thing that I used to do on my Motorhome and it seems even more important with the caravan as it stands still for longer and only on two wheels.
Why did my quote not come out like everyone else's ? What did I do wrong ?

A quick trawl of t'Internet brings up lots of conflicting advice about flat spots on caravan tyres. Some people claim that 21 days is the maximum that a caravan should stand without the tyres being rotated while others say that with modern tyres kept correctly inflated, the whole topic is a load of cobblers.
Who are we supposed to believe?
In the five years that we have been caravanning, I have never given it a thought but if I were concerned, I think I'd simply buy a pair of these tyre savers

I use Fiamma tyre savers during its winter lay up, I have had a classic car MG Midget that developed a flat spot through been stood still for too long. I have a motor mover fitted to my Familia and I place the jack under the axle near the wheel.

That's what we've been using for 6 years and have had no problems.

My error sorry I meant 120 as I gave him the print out.
Mine also has a mover and you go from the other side of the wheel where the mover is not in the way and get to the axle that way and up she goes
