Electrical Polarity

Dear All, We have now picked up our Triton 420 Gt and have stayed in her for one night. Brilliant fun and we love the layout. Lots of light and much drier than camping. We have a trip planned in a couple of weeks to Biarritz France and I have question on polarity. Do we have to purchase a continental hook up lead or will be able to use our UK One ? The dealer gave us a polarity checker but I am not sure how top use it. Can we do any damage if we just use our UK Cable? Best wishes to all. Bob

My personal opinion, and it is a personal opinion, is throw the polarity checker away, Eriba vans are double pole protected so + and - trip, if there is a fault, and electricity doesn't care which way round it goes.
Most French sites now have the standard blue hook up, but you may come across the odd recidivist who sticks to the old schuko sockets where you will need something like this.

Hi Dave from what you are saying the majority of up to date french camp sites will have the same blue hook ups as we do in the UK and that just plugging the wire in should either work or at least not blow up the electrics! Is that it? Many thanks for your reply.

I bought a Shuko adapter for this years trip to France, we stayed on 7 different sites and I never needed it, but it is good for emergencies when they arise.
All the sites we stayed at had the Uk type of hook up, and although the amperage may vary from site to site you will still be on 220/230v so everything should work fine.I never yet used my polarity checker, again I think this harks back to days gone by when lx was a bit iffy on sites.
Have a great trip ,

Because we use a Splitter and a Mobile Mains Kit (similar to this one) which sends power to both Eriba and awning, there is a polarity light on the Mobile Mains Kit.

Therefore I've wired up a short length of power cable with blue male and female plug, the wrong way around. Although I'm satisfied that the Eriba is dual polarity, if the red warning light on the Mobile Mains Kit is on, I just plug this short power cable in line, into the EHU box and everything is sorted.
