Protec Cover vs AL Cover
Protec Cover vs AL Cover

Hello,
I have a Automotive Leisure cover for my 310 and, although it works really well, it is a tight fit. I've been looking at the Protec version as they can make one with the easy fit system which seems a lot simpler to install and would negate the need to take step ladders to the storage area. Also, the AL version had some moisture underneath when I removed it at the start of the year.
What do others think about Protec vs AL?
Thanks.

Hi. We have a ProTec cover for our 320. The first one they set did not fit. Took pictures and sent the in. They paid for Cole tigon and sent another one will great apologies. It fits perfect. The easy fit system is first class. Dearer the AL but having seen the AL one I would go for ProTec. Every time. Good luck. David

I'm a bit confused here Philip.
When we bought our Protec Cover, we purchased it from AL but it was manufactured by Protec. I'm assuming that this doesn't happen anymore and AL make thier own?
Our Protec cover had two plastic D rings sewn to the rear bottom corners of the cover and Protec supplied 2 qty WICKES TELESCOPIC ROLLER EXTENSION POLE 1-2M Product Code: 601608 (sorry, can't get the link to work )
The rubber end of the pole fits into the D ring so that the cover can be drawn over the roof from the front and pulled down the back. It's so easy.

AL do a cheaper lightweight version I don't know who makes them for AL now. Personally I use a specialised which fits my Familia very well. Condensation is normal under a cover,it is just the damp air hitting the van body especially first thing in the morning. The secret is that with a breathable cover is that as the van warms up the water will evaporate through the cover.
Here is some info on covers

Thanks all. I got two replies from Protec when I queried the cost. One stated £279 and that easy fit was not available, the other £310 and £350 for the easy fit version. They both came from a person called Sue, so I am a bit confused.
It sounds like members have the easy fit version. This is where there is a large flap in the back that zips down after been dragged along the van with two poles? The AL one is really tight (almost like it has shrunk in the wash), so I am keen on Prototec, but with the east fit option.

Based on the AL cover I have, which is a snug fit but works well, if I was having one made I would think about having the following done - .
1. A gusseted flap cover over the hookup point so that I could easily plug the mains cable into the van.
2. A zipped flap over the toilet box locker to make access easier when the cover is on, and why not have one to access the external locker space.
3. I would also like to see some protective cover where the zips may touch the van body.
Not much to ask for!

No, not us. Our Protec doesn't have the flap but is generous enough to fit the van easily. The whole cover (apart from the front of course) is dragged over the roof from front to back using the poles and when the rear corners get a little tight as they slide over the back corners of the roof, they are reachable by hand to give them that little extra tug.

Apologies for the confusion Randa; the way you described pulling it on with the poles sounded much like the easy fit system. It does, however, sound much easier than the AL variant which is elasticated in places and almost impossible to get it right down at the front or back of the van without a great deal of tugging.
