12v lighting in 1989 troll

I have added a leisure battery under the seat. I have connected it to the transformer where it says battery and now the pump works but not the 12v lights. From reading other posts they mention running a wire from the battery to the towing power plug and making the leisure battery pretend to be the car battery.

My question is if my caravan is using a 7 pin 12n connection then how will the lights run off that. the "n" connector doesn't have interior lights. My caravan only has the "n" connector but it definitely has 12v bulbs as well as 240 bulbs.

Not sure this will help but worth a look.

Have you had the covers off and checked the bulbs?

This light is from a 1989 puck and is as follows

Red arrows 2 switches one mains and one 12 volt
Green arrow 12 v bulb (pretty much a car light bulb)
Blue arrow is the mains bulb
On the side nearest the mains bulb the puck had a mains socket with a UK adaptor
Try bypassing the 12 volt light switch mine was a bit hit and miss as to whether it worked or not.

Hi Hob,

sorry for the delay in relpying. Yes i have taken the cover off and it looks pretty much like yours. The bulbs look good. None of the lights work on 12volt which makes me think it is further up the chain. It is curious but all the lights work and pump works on 240v but not the sockets anywhere in the van. (I think this is a separate issue though)

I had been doing some reading and noted that the fridge and possibly the lights only worked when you were running them from the car battery not the onboard backup. So i am thinking this may also be why they are not working. I will keep trying things out.

I was looking at your great article here: How to: Modify an Imported Eriba for UK Use
"The fridge will not run from a leisure battery. The 12v option is only for use with a towing vehicle while in transit. "

you mention: "Having said that there is a work-round for occasional short non hookup situations if that is all you need. You can buy a leisure battery a battery box and a socket to match the one on your tow hitch and a battery charger for your leisure battery."
I have everything for this bar the socket. Mine is a 12n socket on a 1989 troll. I am wondering if i attach the leisure battery as if it is coming from the car that the lights will magically work. I am towing her this weekend so i will check if they do indeed work from the car.

When you say the lights work on mains I'm presuming you mean the 240v bulb part of the lights works, see pic above showing 2 bulbs one 240v another 12v the wiring and switch will be separate for each bulb

Sounds like you may have problems in the 12v wiring, the puck was pretty basic electric wise and hard to follow, they were mostly behind the walls and floor I had to replace one wire altogether

See my blog about half way down

For the sockets check the trip

This was all I had in the puck, the small square bit below I think someone added for extra sockets anyway check the switches in both positions to find out what they do, one may turn the sockets on and off

It is true the fridge will not work off an onboard battery (it would be flat in no time,) it should also not work off the car battery for the same reason, it should when connected to a car (engine running) work from the car alternator if the towing electrics are wired correctly, however the 12v part of the lights should work from the onboard battery.
