Hello everyone! We've gone and got ourselves a lovely 1997 Troll! Looking for some advice please about what type of awning to try to get...The original canopy is still on it but we need a bit more space for those wet dog days! Any comments/help appreciated - Thank you

Hi William and Zoe and welcome to Eribafolk. Yellow stripe or purple stripe?

Regarding the awning, you say you still have the original canopy "on it". Does that mean it's a fixed cassette type canopy? If so then you must be careful on your choice of full awning as it might foul the cassette.

If you do have a cassette then a photo might help us to advice you.

Purple!! Thinking of taking the fixed cassette canopy off and storing it to allow for bigger awning

OK. There are photos of most of the awnings that'll fit an Eriba in our Picture Gallery here:- g8-Eriba-Awnings.html

Generally speaking there are three different types of awning:-
1) The traditional apex type g8p1242-Van-de-Horn-Sneek-KeithF.html
2) The curved roof type g8p1679-Unico-Bologna-awning.html
3) The drive away lightweight type g8p417-Outdoor-Revolution-Movelite-Pro.html

Type 1 and Type 2 have a near vertical rear triangle like this https://files.homepagemodules.de/b614104/...n3_HmrhncNU.jpg which may foul your cassette. However, if your cassette is installed far enough around the curve of the roof as this one is g150p2188-Eribanaut.html then you'll get away with it without having to remove it.

Type 3 awning will fit the awning rail without interfering with the cassette.

Which type to choose? If you intend doing most of your camping in the UK and will be staying on campsites for more than 3 or 4 days then I would go for types 1 or 2. If however you're planning on long weekends where you want something easy to fit and take down even when wet then I'd go for type 3.

What do others think?

Randa

With regard to the Movelite-Pro, this range looks a great option on the Eriba especially with the side door access in between the van and awning body.
There is one biggish BUT - this groundsheet is non-breathable. Many sites where the awning would be on grass get upset, naturally, if you go around killing off patches of grass with groundsheets and 'suggest' that you lift your groundsheet every few days to allow the grass to breathe and get some rays.
The Movelite Classic does have a breathable groundsheet and the 2017 model seems to be a heavier fabric. The current version is shown as 100 denier, the new version is shown as 150 HD - which may or may not be a direct comparison.
http://www.outdoor-revolution.com/motorh...te-classic.html this page has been updated to the new 2017 spec
The groundsheet is switching to zip in as well which makes it easy to lift - which you still need to do occasionally.
This may or may not matter to you depending on the sites you want to use and length of stay - and you do need an additional stoneproof sheet for hard standing.
It has huge zip out side panels so that when it is hot you can reduce it to virtually a canopy, which has to be good.
Finally - the weight is only 22kg - dry.

Willandzoe to Eribaflok

With regards to your question about awnings, if inflatables are of interest to you then Automotive Leisure (referred to by most of us as AL) have introduced their own:

There website also has a whole part on Eribra awnings: http://www.automotiveleisure.co.uk/Awnings.html

Welcome to Eribafolk.

Ah, the awning quest begins. 😀
I wonder how many awnings the average Eriba owner has had or still owns.
The Holy Grail of awnings has yet to be to be found but the quest continues.
Everybody's individual requirements differ and the end result will be some sort of compromise between size, price, ease of erection, weight, strength, light, colour, fit, age, etc etc.
There is a lot to be said for seeing as many awnings in use as possible and quizzing the owners before making a purchase. The tried and tested awnings seem to stand the test of time quite well.

]If you are looking for an awning I have a Soplair awning for a troll to sell if you are interested. Pictures can be seen in the gallery. It came with our present van Troll 540 2007 model. It comes complete with awning skirt and matching front window shades. The sides are as new as previous owners only used it as a sun canopy when on holiday mostly in Germany.
If interested please pm me
