Hello, everybody. We're touring in Scotland at the moment, in The Dorset Dazzler (Familia 320), and visited a friend in West Lothian. We decided to look in on Jandi Caravans, as I've heard so much about them. To say it wasn't what I expected is an understatement, being used to the plush surroundings of Automotive Leisure, just around the corner from us in Bournemouth. But, I have to say, the knowledge and enthusiasm emanating from Sandi and his wife was astonishing, and they imparted a little bit of knowledge about the Familia that might just have saved our lives, which AL omitted to mention. "Never judge a book by it's cover" has never been more apt. And, Jandi have been appointed Hymer dealers since 2000. Believe me, they know what they're talking about.IMG_20161013_1541470.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

You probably would think we're a little naive, but a question to Sandi about our Truma Space Heater lead to him mentioning the extension tubes on our "chimney" (flue). "What extension tubes?", I asked. "The two extension tubes you screw in place to extend the height of the chimney above roof level. It's essential". Now, when we took delivery of our Familia 320 from AL, we found a cream coloured Truma tube in the cutlery drawer. No idea what it was, maybe something to do with the waste water. Who knew? No, this and another (which wasn't supplied) were to be attached to the chimney when on site, therefore avoiding the danger of any lethal fumes entering the Eriba. We duly purchased two from Sandi (£5 each, £10 in total), and they are now attached to the roof of our Eriba. The importance of this was never told to us, and, in any case, only one was supplied. The Truma works more efficiently, too.

You did read the manual of course?

Yes, I've read quite a lot of the manual, usually in respect of questions I had, but not cover to cover. If I wasn't aware this was a problem, and I hadn't been advised by anybody that it might be, it wouldn't occur to me to investigate the matter. In any case, only one tube extension was supplied, placed anonymously in the cutlery drawer, and wasn't referred to when the fire was demonstrated to us.
