Awnings and Ground Sheets.

Lovely Sunny day today and so having recently acquired my Eriba I decided to inspect some of the 'Extra's' that came with it and in particular the awning.
There was a photo of the awning erected . It is a Soplair. 2.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte) 1.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)
Anyway on inspection could n't find what model it was and also noticed one of the poles is damaged so will have to either try to fix or try to replace.
Can anyone help with the following :
No groundsheet and so I wondered 'Are these alowed on sites' ?
Secondly if allowed what size would I need ? I'm being quizzed for christmas and I can't think of anything I want !
It's been a considerable time since we have toured in the UK.
Thanks Ian

They are not made any more so you are correct about repair or look for a replacement, some caravan shops have a bin with spare poles for sale or look at ebay etc

That depends on the site, sometimes mentioned on their website or ask when ringing to book some insist on them being "breathable" I saw one place that wanted it taken up every day for a short time I very rarely use one.

Size is hard to tell, put it up sometime and have a measure. I have the same trouble re Christmas as I always buy things as I need them, .......... good position to be in though and you can always ask for some

Hi Jobberwock,
Lidl and Aldi have camping / caravanning weeks in the Spring, I bought the breathable carpet for my Soplair Ardeche for under £20.I also got some klingon clips from Hanalex to peg it down.We used it when we were away in France this summer, it was quite wet and was very useful to keep from treading mud in and out of the van. When I got home I sprayed and scrubbed it down and it was good as new.The Soplair awning I have came with my van, and is well designed and good and sturdy but not for overnight stops, it takes a while to put up.We made an arch fronted easily erected awning for overnight stops from one of Randa France's designs, take a Coleman Classic tent awning, cut off excess width and attach a tape with the piping edge to fit into the caravan awning slot.Goes up in a few minutes but doesn't give much side wind protection and is a bit to open to use when it is very windy, but very light and takes up little room. You could also use it as an extra awning on the open front of your Soplair.

Hi Ian. The Soplair awning range for Eribas is as follows:-
The Puck :- Soplair Vendee
The Puck L or Pan/Familia :- Soplair Bretagne
The Triton :- Soplair Bourgogne
The Troll :- Soplair Ardeche
We have a Troll very much like yours but we have a Clairval awning on ours which is also very much the same. Our floor size is 2.4m wide x 3.4 m long. (perhaps buy a 3.5m length to cut accurately to size?
Does your awning have steel poles or fibreglass poles? If fibreglass then they are made by Isabella and there are plenty of spares here :- http://www.penrosetouring.co.uk/acatalog...lla-Spares.html (in our experience, a nice company to deal with)
Randa
ps. This is the Coleman Sunshade the Highmilers are talking about. The Coleman Sunshade/Awning ( not strictly my design because although we already had the shade, we developed it and made it fit an Eriba after we saw another owner using it in its original state ). However, it is also the awning the Marmites mentioned, that ripped at Fforest Fields. It was easy to repair but we've found that the lightweight nylon material won't withstand the hot climates of southern Europe for more than two seasons. UV? Although our seasons are 3 months long so probably OK for 4 or 5 seasons of normal camping.

Thanks to everyone that has all been very informative and really helpful
I've been back up to the garage today and checked the poles, they are fibre glass and the ends look to be the same as on the link provided by Randa
It is one of the joints that appears to be broken rather than the pole and this has been stuck together with gaffa tape.
I'm now thinking before I buy anything (or add to my christmas list) I'll wait until the spring to see the condition of the awning erected and then if the awning itself is of poor condition consider replacing the whole thing. I know the photo's look good but I didn't ask when they were taken and the couple who sold me the Eriba did not appear to have had a great deal of experience using the van. They were a lovely couple and I have been very pleased but as with all things second hand (and even new ones for that matter) they often come with one or two ideosyncracies.
Looks like the Spring Meet will be a good time and who knows I may get some help and advice
For Christmas List ....looks like I'll have to resort to the bootle(looks like I've had one already!)
Funny aside on an earlier topic of mine..........
So for our first foray and adventure of camping out,up the drive, in the Eriba I was sent off to Sainsburys to get some fresh bread rolls, tomato soup and a block of mature chedder for our evening meal.....and anything else I fancied.....These were my instructions.
Upon entering Sainsburys, on display, they had Dows port for £6 odd a bottle(usually £10+) and a further 25% off if you bought six bottles. Obviously I had to use my initative and make a decision. I was helped in my decision making by another codger who said he'd already bought twelve. Moving on I found the soup and it was on special offer at only £1 and then the cheese and that too was on offer at only £2 for extra mature. I'm doing good here I thought. On to the checkout only to find that all the booze is reduced and there on offer was my favourite Drambuie at only £18 a bottle instead of the usual £25. Well I stood and I pondered and then was joined by the same codger who'd spoken to me earlier. 'I've already got meself some of that' He says. So obviously I thought I'll have a couple of them then.
So at the check out £70+ and she sent me out for cheese and bread but I bet she'd be pleased with my results!
At home, pleased with myself (I'm not usually allowed out on my own with a card) I tell Anne of my bargains with the cheese and the soup and there was a smile and a glow of appreciation. I'm on a winner here I thought I'll move on to my biggest prizes.........
What do you think ?
Lead balloon. Didn't I know she was on the wagon?...saving herself for Christmas...and what on earth were the family going to buy me for Christmas?
That Jesus has got a lot to answer for ...that's all I can say
