Hello, everybody. Here's an update on the progress of our Eriba 320 Touring. The application of a red skirt to the Eriba is to be further enhanced by the addition of the same red to the midriff. After some contemplation, the original name "The Dorset Dazzler" has been refined to "The Dorset Dreamer". A visit to Barneveld (Jan Van Schaffalar) is in the system for the beginning of March, which will involve the fitting of alloy wheels, repair of the vandalised locks, and the warranty service. Our first campsite visit is to take place shortly after. fullsizeoutput_215.jpeg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Is that an Eriba step or one that you've modified ?....looks very handy.

Hi. It's a standard Eriba step. Glad you like the finish.

Looking better all the time Steve. Can you post a copy of the photo in the appropriate album for us please? Id like to use it on a future Portal carousel.

What's the story regarding the vandalised locks?

Back in October, the storage complex was broken into, and ten caravans attacked. The thieves were looking to steal batteries, and broke into the lockers. Of course, there's no external access in the Eriba, but they didn't know that. All the other 'vans were "conventional" ones, and the locks were picked with no problem. The thieves tried my side access door first, and then the Thetford door. The locks stood firm (testament to the quality of the Eriba), but have to be replaced. AL quoted for a replacement lock on the access door, and a whole door replacement at the Thetford side. They also warned I would now have three different keys, as each lock comes with it's own key. Jan Van Schaffalar only need to replace the lock barrels (no new door), all coded for use with my existing key. The warranty service is €95, compared to £350 at AL.

As they are a Hymer dealer I find that strange as I've broken front gas locker locks twice now as a result of my being ham-fisted. Took key and registration docs to dealer and they ordered replacement lock inserts from Hymer within a few days. In fact I believe this is even mentioned in the Handbook.

That's the situation at AL. The side access door needs a replacement "twist" lock, but the Thetford door lock needs to be replaced as part of the door. Plus, as each lock comes with it's own key, I will end up with three different keys. I know it's bulls**t, but that's what they told me, and they quoted £257 for the job. I feel that sometimes AL can't be bothered to do a job, so make it seem more difficult than it actually is.

Jandi supplied me with replacement gas compartment locks that used the same key as the door and other lockers. I supplied them wth the key number.

Yes, I've supplied the key number to Jan Van Schafalaar in The Netherlands.

Is it just me, or shouldn't the storage complex be secure, or failing that, insured to cover thefts/damages? Or is it just another case of gladly taking people's hard earned cash for supposed peace of mind? Good to hear that Eribas can withstand lock picking though, bless them.

Yes, you're right, of course. But, no compensation, and not even a refund on some of the storage costs. I'm insured, but, with an excess of £250, it was useless in this case. Can't get past those locks, though!
