Thetford pump plus Eriba age??

So, I went to check on the Eriba in the barn this morning, usually once a week, nothing was frozen, the loo paddle moved freely and then and tried the flush,NOWT,ZILCH,Nothing.

Sometime ago the same thing happened, I read the " how to change" from hob and cleaned it up and it has worked fine until now so I will take it apart yet again, however, after I had removed the bottom cover at the front of the loo to clean it I noticed that there was a date stamp for 11/2006 on the back, our Familia 320 was first registered in 2008 so where was it for all that time?????

Surely the date stamp of 11/2006 on the loo indicates the date of manufacturer and is not related to as and when the van itself is actually registered.

I was just surprised that as a "sought after" caravan it was stood for 15 months somewhere before being sold to the previous owner as new by the French agent

I think you were perhaps missing my point, Bryn. The date in all likelihood is the manufacturing date of the loo after which it could have been laid up in a box somwhere until actually being called upon and installed in the van. To the best of my knowledge it is only items such as tyres that are generally pretty much related to when the van itself was built as of course these have a limited recommended life.
If the van still has the original tyres shod - which of course it shouldn't after all this time - then it might be worth you checking the manufacturing date.

Good point, I changed the tyres 2 years ago, we bought the van in 2013, it had only been used for 2 weeks before we bought it

Before changing the pump I would fill the tank with diluted bleach and let the pump soak for 24hrs. This should free up the pump, worked for me and I posted about it on here if you search for Thetford impeller pump

Many thanks to Taffy, the pump was soaked as directed and now works fine, simple really, but definitely a mine of information on here

Sometimes one can't help but shake ones head in disbelief. On the Thetford website FAQ's one comes across this information:-

I get black bits in my flush, what can I do?

First clean out the flush-water tank, following our factory-specific instructions. Use Aqua Rinse Plus for ultimate freshness, clean flush-water and to keep your toilet protected.

This is how it works:

WHAT NEEDED: Household bleach + bucket/watering can

HOW:

Prepare a solution using 100ml household bleach per 10L of flush-water tank capacity. Prepare as much solution as needed to completely fill your flush-water tank. Fill the flush-water tank completely with the prepared solution.
Leave it in for 24 hours.
Drain the flush-water tank by using the drain tube or flushing system.
Then fill the flush-water tank completely with fresh water and leave it in for 5 minutes.
Drain the flush-water tank again.
Repeat step 5+6 to make sure no bleach is left behind.

Note
Do not use together with other products.
Exceeding the stated dose or recommended duration could damage your Thetford toilet

Note the use of household bleach whilst a bit further down the same page:-

Can I use domestic bleach in the toilet?

No. It can damage the toilet. We only recommend using genuine Thetford toilet additives and cleaning products.

Shake one's head in disbelief???? I hope that wasn't meant that I shouldn't ask for advice ? Somtimes one needs reassurance that what one intends to do is correct for ones problem

No, I wasn't referring to anything concerning your post/question, Bryn, but more to the conflicting advice offered by Thetford i.e. in one paragraph one shouldn't under any circumstances use household bleach whilst in the next, giving clear instructions as to the use of bleach.

I wonder if they are differentiating between the flush tank and the toilet?

i think if you use neat bleach in the toilet pan it will yellow it, however dilute in the flush tank to clean the pump and clean the tank it works fine but needs to be flushed through with water afterwards

I agree about the undiluted bleach yellowing the loo.If I remember correctly you can "kill off" the bleach with Sodium Metabisuphite. (old textile processing technique).
